New York Mets third baseman and team captain David Wright, 33, is expected to make his debut in Spring training on Friday March 18, 2016 when the Mets will be hosting the Washington Nationals at their home stadium in Port St Lucie. Wright who is recovering from a back injury that limited his playing time to 38 games did play in an intrasquad game on Monday. Wright has played his entire career in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets since he made his debut in 2004. Wright will be playing on a limited basis for the remainder of the Mets Spring training games since the games will not have any meaning on the regular season standings. However Wright is expected to be in the starting lineup for the Mets when the Kansas City Royals who are the defending World Series champions will be hosting the defending National League Champions in Kansas City on April 3, 2016. Wright does not get the ink from the national media since the Mets are in the shadow of the New York Yankees in the New York City metropolitan area but he is the face of the Mets franchise.

David Wright's numbers have declined considerably from when he was an all-star.

Father Time takes a toll on all of us. You are correct about David's production falling off his All Star game appearance.

@Deepizzaguy If he stays healthy, Wright may not be what he once was but can be a strong contributor on a good team.

JohnRoberts You are correct. Being the captain of the Mets will be useful for his teammates to follow his example of leadership in the clubhouse.
