Discovery. March 16, 1521. Four hundred ninety-five years ago (495), a Portuguese explorer named Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines. Isla San Lazaro was the first name, later named Filipinas in honor of King Philip of Spain. The exploration of Magellan is for them to search for spices, then expand Spanish territory and spread Christianity. On your neck of the woods, what is it today on your history?
