Pub Clock Photo Study – Winters – Stockport

The clock on the wall outside the Winters pub in Stockport town centre keeps good time but unusually it is best seen from behind. The pub is a former jewellery store and the clock, as well as the name Winters was kept when the business changed. Though the clock face is visible from the street, the best view is from the upstairs bar room inside as the clock’s marvellous moving parts are on display in a large glass case and everything gets very active as the clock hits the hour each hour. Many drinkers drinking downstairs head up on the hour just to admire the dancing cogs and pendulums often dragging their friends up to look as well. Arthur Chappell

I love to see the moving parts of the old mechanical clocks. Unfortunately they are disappearing.

I love watching these automated gizmos and how complicated but clever they are.
