What Cause was That?

A modern piece of London's history, Maggie Blake's Cause. This little alley leads from Shad Thames onto the riverfront and Butler's Wharf.
After the city's docks fell into disuse, developers of the 80s and 90s wanted to turn the warehouses of Butler's Wharf into expensive apartments and restaurants with the riverfront, formerly used for unloading ships, to become private for residents and patrons of the restaurants only.
Maggie Blake organised a campaign to keep the riverfront open to all. She and her supporters were ultimately successful and the magnificent view of Tower Bridge, along with the delightful Thames side walk, are available to everyone.
Maybe several decades from now, people will wonder who Maggie Blake was and what did she do to be immortalised.

Activists can make a difference sometimes. Good for her.

Many cities and towns have streets named after long forgotten people of the past or more unknown recent. For example, there is an Edward Everett Horton Lane here. People haven't got a clue these days. Horton was of course the character actor from the 1930s and the street is named where his estate once stood (it was plowed under for the freeway). There are places named after fallen police officers. You get the drift.

@Ronrybs It takes something like this before people can be bothered stirring out of their lounges. It is only when someone brings it to everyone's attention that they suddenly start to take notice and decide it mightn't be in their best interests. People can be very apathetic.
