Utopia or Dystopia?

Near perfect qualities or less than? What is a perfect society? Could we really survive curturally in a dystopia? Is the social philosopher Sir Thomas More's fictional outlook in his book "Utopia" realistic? Do you think there is a perfect soicety? What privileges should a community have? I think the set up of Utopia is idiotic. Several households of adults which are redistributed to keep them even. The capitol is right in the middle of the island. Boring! Having no private property may relieve any neighbor problems but was of building a life and family homes? All citizens wear the same type of clothes. Boring! Slavery is a part of Utopia although some are relieved for good behavior. Community dining halls, kids wear jewels, if you do something wrong you are inslaved, all religions are tolerant of one another, women are restricted to household tasks only, and private gatherings are non-existent. So basically you live in a communal existance with very little privacy or individuality. What a boring and imperfect life! Your thoughts.

I would not like to live in such a place. I have seen shows on tv, I know its tv, but that show Whispering Pines was something like that. Oh no, what a place! I am afraid I would not survive it. I would rebel.

I think a lot of people would. But, what if we didn't know of anything else? I wonder.

@celticeagle Well if we didnt know I guess we would just have to go along with it. Although it makes you think if a few people might get the inkling that there was something else besides what they know and might start to do something yeah it is a thought.

@TiarasOceanView ...There was Star Trek episode about this very thing. A Utopian society. After the visit fomr the Enterprise things and people began to change. They wanted to go beyond their world which they had never done before.

I see the point, I mean, trying to be sure everyone is healthy and taken care of, keeping it organized, but no, that;s not utopia, that's hell.

I never saw what the hippies saw in communal living anyway. I enjoy privacy and individual decision making.

@celticeagle I could see some of it, to a point, but I'd still need my own space and no one telling me who I was living with

I doubt that will ever happen in reality.

I didn't say it ever would either. I was asking what you thought of the concept.

@celticeagle It is a quaint idea but sadly I do not think it would ever work!

I am pretty certain that no Utopian society ever existed or ever will.

I don't think so either. I am talking about a 'what if' situation.
