JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE
PSALMS
Psalms is known as Israel’s songbook. It is also a prayer book. Most of the Psalms were written by David, while others were ascribed to Asaph, the sons of Korah, a couple to Solomon, and one to Moses. It is a songbook of praise and worship, as well as prayer in times of trouble.
Psalms is divided into five books. In some Bibles you will see headings before each book. Each book ends with Amen and Amen. Book one is Psalms 1-41. Book two is Psalms 42-72. Book three is Psalms 73-89. Book four is Psalms 90-106. Book five is 107-150. Psalm 117 is the shortest Psalm with two verses, while Psalm 119 is one-hundred-seventy-six verses, divided into twenty-two sections with eight verses each.
As we journey through Psalms we will study one Psalm per day, with the exception of Psalm 119, which will be a full study in itself taking twenty-two days in its study. Every time I have studied Psalms I have been blessed beyond measure, and even more so it seemed when I studied Psalm 119. I hope you will be as blessed as we journey together through Psalms, which will take us into the month of September.
You will also see many verses which are Messianic prophecy foretelling ministry of Jesus Christ. Here now begins our journey through Psalms. All scripture is King James Version. However, I have edited those words, which are no longer common in the English language and made them much easier to read and understand.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff, which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Here the psalmist, we expect David, compares the godly and ungodly person.
Those who live after God will find blessings on their lives. They aren’t found in the company of anyone who loves to shun God and live unholy lives, mocking God at every turn. They love God’s Word and find joy when they open his Word and spend time studying all God has to say to them.
However, those who practice wickedness, who do their best to lure God’s people away from God, and perform all acts of ungodliness, God will shun. God takes out those who want nothing to do with him, and all remembrance of them is lost.
That is not to say that all those who die an early death are evil. We know that isn’t the case. Satan is at work in the world to destroy everyone who calls on the name of God and follows closely after him.
God knows everyone who are his and none are lost, even if they die an early death.
As Christians, it is a joy to spend time in God’s Word, looking for his counsel, and doing all we can to help our fellow man. For all those who do, God promises to prosper them. Some people think prosperity means financial blessing, and for some it is. However, there are many ways to prosper in God, financial blessings are only part of our heritage in knowing Jesus as Savior and Lord. We find blessings in the small things we do for one another, giving ourselves to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and walking in his ways. It won’t be easy because Satan is out there to throw problems our way. However, when we resist Satan, he must flee.
Jesus said, he came to give us abundant life, while Satan’s purpose is to kill, steal, and destroy all who call on the name of Jesus.
John 10:10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (KJV)
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you will meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
The only book Israel had was the Law of Moses. We have the entire Word of God, and when we read and study it, God will prosper us.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for prospering me according to your promises. Keep my feet on the path you have chosen for me. Walking in your ways and spending time in your Word. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

I love your Bible studies very much and this one is particularly inspiring. I have Britt's Bible with me now. I had bought this for him when we first met. It's large print, since he was legally blind, and now that I'm older, it's wonderful for me. As with everything related to God, it's the gift that truly keeps on giving. :)
