Not broken...

How many doctors does it take to read an x-ray? In this case, three. The first doctor, at the urgent care, looked at Cary's x-ray and said no break. Then the radiologist looked it over, and said there was a fracture. Today the specialist took more x-rays and said it's a sprain. Same treatment as if it were a break, removable case, but it's not a break. I guess those are the breaks.

That is scary, even if the treatment is the same, I'd personally would want to know.

The third guy said it was really hard to see unless you've looked at a lot of them, but glad it isn't broken.

@dawnald So, not broken was the final verdict? That's great!

How frustrating. If you'd known you could have just gone to the specialist first. Save time, money and stress.

I had no way of knowing until they looked at it, and the specialist requires a referral.

@celticeagle When I first went in, I was told by the school nurse that it was just a sprain, so I went to the urgent care just to make sure. They referred us to the specialist. I could have called one directly since I have PPO insurance, but I wouldn't have had a clue what type of doctor to call.

@dawnald ...You still have to get referrals? Ugh!

Sounds like this is a runaround or they don't know what the heck it is, sprain or break.

@dawnald If the treatment is the same then it really doesn't matter who says what, does it?

From what the specialist told me, it is very hard to see a break in this particular place, and you have to have looked at a lot of them, especially when it is tiny. Two doctors say it isn't a break, and the specialist says the treatment would be the same even if it were, so as long as he doesn't have trouble, I"m good with it.

@Marcyaz It kind of does. If it were broken, he'd probably be in the cast longer, and because of the location it could put him in physical therapy after he's out of the cast.

wow you did get the run around but sprains can be more miserable than an actual break as the break often heals faster than the sprain does. Im glad hat they reached a c onclusion but why make it cost more by taking three doctors shame on them

It was the doctor who saw him, the radiologist and the specialist. If the radiologist hadn't seen a "break", we might not have ended up with the specialist, but at least he seems to know what he's doing.

It takes more than 1 person here to read xray's also. Glad it's not broken though and just sprained. I hope she heals quickly.
