Something to Get Excited About

When I was in elementary school, all the students stayed the same for the full 9 years (including Kindergarten). There were a few that joined later on, and sometimes we were split grade classes but we always, always were the same group of people, friends. There were no cliques or bullies like there are today. We all lived in the same area, went to the same church. Some of their families STILL live in that area 40 years later. We had First Communion together, Confirmation, Quebec City trip, Confirmation retreat, me beating Monica in a race around the school during track and field training. So many memories.
Yes, the 40th anniversary of our grade 8 graduation is this year. We are actively searching for our former classmates. A gathering is being planned. Not a big party (unless the numbers get too huge I guess), but a dinner at a restaurant. There are only about 35 of us and no way everyone will make it. The hottest guy in class is now a fireman and is working that weekend.
Some of my friends from high school got together recently. I did not join them. It was a weekend afternoon in the city (I hate going to the city) and just thought it was too early for me as I would have to get up pretty early. I guess I just wasn't as excited about seeing my high school friends as I am about my grade school friends. Let's face it, in high school there were some clashes here and there. The teen years.
This dinner is in downtown Toronto on a long weekend. For this I am considering taking a hotel room because I don't want to drive home from that distance at night (I live an hour north west of the city, could take even longer). The more and more the messages pop up on my Facebook page, the more excited I get. Unfortunately we have learned that 3 of those classmates have passed away.... way too young.
There is only one thing I fear.... everyone is going to call me Patty. Ugh! I gave up that name when I left that school behind.
Anyone have any fond memories of grade school? Would you get together with them if you had a chance?

There are only a handful on Facebook so we're searching the internet to try and find them. It's hard when women marry and change their last name. And one guy, whose last name I thought was not too common, is hard to find because there are so many of them. Some people look way different than they did back then, and some have barely changed.
