Got a text message from Verizon today. It stated that people who have phone numbers in the 336 area code have to start dialing area codes when calling people. I assume it means any area code but I haven't tested it out yet. I know there was talk that part of my county would be switched to a different area code but not sure if that happened or not. I'm guessing it might have something to do with that but am not sure. I only mention it here because I know there are several North Carolinians who mylot here, and atleast two who are in the same area code as me.

Yes I remember them changing area codes when I lived in other states, but that was a long time ago Reality.

This isn't the first time the area code has been changed. We used to have another one a long time ago but I don't think I was yet thought of then. Not quite sure what the benefit of changing it is though.

I've always entered the area code either way even if it was in my area. I thought you had to anyway...

This is probably due to the increasing number of telephones in the area, which necessitates splitting them to allow for further numbers.

@ScribbledAdNauseum This has happened in England twice and by brother has had three different dialling codes for his telephone over the years.

Had not even thought of that, but it could be the case. There are only so many number combinatins that can be made afterall.

We are having the same thing happen here. After a certain series of numbers is all given out users will have to use an area code. I don't use such a service so I don't fully understand it.

Now isn't that interesting to have to start dialing area codes.

We have been dealing ten digits for more than 20 years. The area I live in has invpcreased from one area code to at least five in that same time period.
