No, I didn't do anything special. I didn't do anything most of you have not already done. I did something I didn't think I would ever do. But now the deed is done so to speak.
When I got HughesNet Internet I asked the installer about a wireless router. I had no clue, seriously, what it was or why people have them. After his explanation my husband actually remembered the model number router and he got me one for Christmas. Since I have no other device other than my computer I have not hooked it up, I had no reason to until now.
I want to be able to sit in front of the TV and check e-mail if I am expecting a message instead of jumping up and running (walking fast) to my office. That led me on a search for an inexpensive tablet. I like buying from QVC for many reasons, and their on-air demonstrations are part of the reason.
Yesterday evening I flipped on QVC and they were selling the LePan Mini 8" 8GB Quad Core Android Tablet with Google Play and a case for $59.96. They had 4 colors left and I picked red. It comes with one year of accidental damage protection - if you drop it, the dog eats or whatever in the first year they replace it for free.
Anyway, that was what I was waiting for, something not expensive but something handy. It should be here next week and now I have to hook up the wireless router.
If I don't like the tablet I will have 30 days to return it, so I was willing to take a chance on this tablet. I am used to buying 'tablets' like the photo, but this is my first electronic one!
This is a big step for an old lady LOL!

@AbbyGreenhill We have wi-fi "extenders" through the house because the router is on the first floor and the signal was not strong enough to reach all the floors and the garden.

@LadyDuck The router I have supposedly is one that will do the whole house/basement too. I won't know until I test it out!

@AbbyGreenhill Haha - they actually use it! They have a time limit though because they don't want to look at the iPad too long.. but in the hour they look at their tablet after dinner - they love it.

I love it - now I can sit in front of the TV and check if I'm expecting a message...no more jumping up to come to the computer!

I finally got a tablet for Christmas, and I love it. I have used the wireless router for other things, though, such as the Wii. It is good for watching NetFlix on the television.

@AbbyGreenhill Some of the new televisions can use the router, so you can stream movies and television shows. Gaming consoles, such as the PS3 (PlayStation3) and PS4 or the Wii can also use them. Of course, the laptop I am working on uses it as well. We also have hand-held gaming systems, such as the Nintendo 3DS and PSP that use the wireless router.

I have no clue what else you use a router for.

That is a really good price. Over the Christmas holidays they were selling the Kindle fire for 50 dollars, I bought 3 of those for Christmas presents.

I've been waiting and watching their electronic shows but I did't even know this was to be on last night - it was purely accidental that I found it.

Are you sure you don't have the tablet I lost yesterday, an Amazon Fire (7" for $35 on sale)? It disheartened me, but a friend said he'd give me his last iPod, so I may be better off because of it!

I am enjoying mine, just here at home - I don't have to jump up and run to the office to check on something.

I list things on FB yard sale groups, and instead of running back to this office to check the status, I can sit in my comfy chair in front of the tv to do it.

well done... i'm pleased you've found what sounds like good value.... I'm sure you'll get the hang of it quite quick.... and I think you'll be surprised how much use you will get out of it too... and the different things you'll start to do on it....
