Trek 930 - I Wish I Still Had It

The Trek 930 was the first mountain bike I owned. I bought it in 1993 for around $500, and I loved it. It was pretty state of the art for its time, coming equipped with the original Rock Shox RS 01 front shock, which had about an inch of travel. I swapped the handlebar for a wider, more comfortable downhill bar and, eventually, clipless pedals. After a year or so, I added a suspension seatpost, which were all the rage at the time. I rode the hell out of that thing, mountain biking, bike paths, you name it. Eventually, I upgraded to a full suspension bike, but I kept the 930 and used it as a commuter. I rode it for about 15 years before I finally sold it, which I'm still bummed about all these years later. I sold it on consignment at Play it Again Sports, so I have no idea who bought it. I just hope they've had as much fun on it as I did.

Wow! You had the bike for 15 years! Did you have to ever tune up the bike (pedals, etc).

That seems like a lot of money to pay for a bike, but it looks like you got a lot of fun out of it.

@teamfreak16 Really? I was thinking I could get a second hand car for that $500 you paid in 1993.

@jaboUK - I could have gotten a nice second hand car for what I paid for the one I own now.

Oh, that is nothing compared to what I paid for my current bike.

I wonder if it is still going my friend? It most likely is it sounds like such a high quality bike. I am sorry you had to sell it..wish you hadn“t have now. Bikes are so much part of us when we love them like that. I had an very old sturdy blue Schwinn that I rode everywhere when I lived up NE by the beach. To this day I miss that bicycle.

I'm sure it's still going. At least I'd bet on it if I had anything to bet with. Trek's are very sturdy bikes that last seemingly forever. I still see old ones around as I ride.

It's too bad you had to part with your first bike. It reminds me of my first car and when I had to part with it... I was sad too.

I'd probably still be using it as a backup if I still had it.

I like hard tails and have a couple. Not keen on suspension seat posts, though I haven't swapped out the one on the Kara Kum

The suspension seat posts were quite popular for awhile there, probably why I got mine. I would like to put one on my girlfriend's bike though.
