My Sunday : Observations And Other Stuff

I don't want to steal the "blog / diary" theme that several others have going on here. I really don't have much interesting going on, atleast not day to day. Today was a bit different though. Last night before going into work I saw on facebook where a friend was in the hospital. This friend is more like a sister to me and so I really wanted to go see her. She's fine, though very sore from an accident that happened the day before yesterday. So I got a couple of hours of sleep and then got up to go visit her. The hospital is really crazy to navigate. It is a hospital designed for cancer patients, trauma patients, they cover a vast majority of ailments and do so wonderfully. I guess they couldn't hire proper architects though! Anyway, they now have a system where you get a "visitor's pass." They scan your ID card and then a sticker prints out that has your name on it, a picture of you (from your ID) and how long the pass is valid for. I thought that it was neat, and a great way to keep the hospital secure, but the machine broke and when we were leaving? (passing the same station) The guy was saying to newcomers "you don't need to check in, the scanner is broken." It actually broke on my ID input but he did it manually, which took maybe two seconds longer. WHY did he just decide to stop the check for all others coming in then? I don't know. There was another thing I wanted to cover here but I can't even think of it right now. So yeah that was my day. I came home, ate dinner, and have been on mylot ever since. I'll catch up on the ZZZ's (I only slept maybe 5 hours) tomorrow morning.

Interesting system they have at the hospital. Do they also give you a map so you can find your way around that architect's nightmare?

THere was one at the info desk at the main hospital but we just asked the nurse there. Then got lost about two hallways down and asked an orderly for the rest of the way!

@just4him True. I took a look at the map they provided and it was confusing as all. It seemed to be just a basic layout of where the buildings / wards were without the details of what wards did what.

Glad to hear that your friend is fine now. I thought if the system is broken, then they need to check it manually. I have no idea about that. We don't think we have such system here, it seems quite strict. Hope you have got some good sleep.

I just think that it's a waste to sit there and tell people "the system is broke, you can go on through."

It is frustrating, if there is a method to do it manually that really is not too inefficient that they do not do it. I remember as a small child going to a large hospital or clinic. They painted a band of different colored stripes. The type of care you needed or the place you needed to go, you just followed the stripe. There were only about four colors, and as a kid, I was enchanted by the idea. I do not know why.

I remember facilities with much the same system. Perhaps not colored stripes but placards with dots of different colors etc. I don't know how old the building is but it's been there for many years, with additions being added throughout the years. I just can't imagine why they made it so difficult. The main hospital entrance is sort of in the middle, sandwiched between other hospital buildings and the parking decks for them. That in itself (the parking decks) can be a headache.

That sounds like a good security system to me.

WHEN they actually use it, that is. We weren't asked who we were going to see, which I thought would've made it even more secure. I can see where people might not want to answer that question but even so...

As am I. It scared me to see the status but the first thing he wrote was "She's okay." Which made me oh so thankful!

That sounds like a great system in the hospital, when it works.

Yes. We have two hospital groups here. One is Novant (I am not sure if that means anything to you as I am not sure how far their reach is) and another is Wake Forest Baptist (again not sure how far of a reach it is). It was the latter hospital I went to today, I am not sure if the former has the same system now or not. I try to avoid the hospitals myself.

I hope the system that the hospital has keeps all safe.

They have been around for many years. I like that they have this system though.
