Eastercon Diary – Good Friday 25th March 2016 – Whose Line Is It Anyway?

The final stage event I attended on the first night of the Mancunicon Eastercon was a reworking of the popular improvisation TV show, Whose Line Is It Anyway? Alice Lawson compered in the Clive Anderson role, while Steve Lawson adjudicated. Performers Ian MacDonald, Roz Kaveny, Peador O’Guiin and Jo Playford really went for gold with their games, which often got raunchy, rude and quite hysterical. It was particularly funny watching Roz trying to guess the name of singer Rick Astley when she probably had no idea who he was anyway. I was a participant in a similar game a few Eastercons before so I know how challenging and yet also how much fun it is to do as well as watch. After the show I had a few beers in the bar before joining my friend Ivan Sinha for a shared cab ride home as buses and trams had stopped running for the night by then. Many friends were staying at the hotel but being from the hosting city meant this was a cheaper weekend for me. Arthur Chappell

It sounds as if you had a lot of fun. I used to love that show but haven't seen it for ages.

We used to watch that show all the time. It was quite good. Glad you enjoyed your weekend both participating and as a member of the audience. It looks like there was loads to do while there. Glad you didn't have to walk home.

me too - it wouldn't be a bad hour long walk in daytime but the streets can be dangerous after dark here

The American version of Whose Line is hilarious. I'd love to see the British one.

@teamfreak16 yes, in fact such improv grew from Canadian comedy clubs - they pretty well invented the style

I went to a recording of the show. There is a lot of material that doesn't make it to the screen

I imagine that the hotel is pretty expensive, of course it was cheaper to reach your home.
