Easy Money

In the 1983 film Easy Money, Rodney Dangerfield plays Monty Capulletti, a work-a-day slob who spends his free time getting loaded with his buddy Nicky (Joe Pesci.) When Monty's hated but wealthy mother-in-law (Geraldine Fitzgerald) dies, she leaves him the majority of her estate, provided Monty can reform himself in one year. If Monty fails, his nephew-in-law Clive (Jeffrey Jones) stands to inherit the fortune instead. Monty is stressed--his daughter Allison (Jennifer Jason-Leigh) is set to marry a hoodlum, Julio (Taylor Negron.) And, naturally, Clive begins sabotage operations immediately. I think Easy Money is pretty damn funny, although, if you aren't a fan of Dangerfield's humor, there's really nothing here to change your mind. The jokes and gags are numerous, and the comic chemistry is quite good, especially Dangerfield's with both between Pesci and Negron. Comedy-wise, there are funny scenes abound. My favorite is when Julio and his buddy Hector create possibly the funniest take on Cyrano de Bergerac you're apt to see (scene linked below.) Throw in a great theme song by Billy Joel, and you have one of the finer, if un-remembered, 80's comedies.
Julio tries to win Allison back

@teamfreak16 That's so true. But what a great feeling it had to be inside to have done it even later in life! I know it would tickle me to no end if something like that happened to me now! lol

@CRK109 - That's true, at least he did get to experience some stardom other than just his standup.

It's too bad he didn't become a star until late in his career, he could have made a lot more like them.

He was is definitely a unique comedian. I do not know if he could become famous in these times with how everything has become so politically correct.

Yeah, but in his standup, he pretty much made fun of himself. But yeah, he was in the right time, when people weren't so damn uptight.

not seen it though it sounds similar to Brewster's Millions where he has to learn hard lessons fast and spend a fortune that keeps coming back to him or lose a massive inheritance

I never thought of that. Great comparison. I've only seen the Richard Pryor/John Candy version, but I thought it was funny.

I saw this one back in the day. Probably Dangerfield's most successful starring movie.
