I feel silly. I'm 53 years old and I don't know how to book a stupid hotel for one night. My elementary school classmates are meeting for an evening in downtown Toronto. It's quite a drive (over an hour) and I hate driving in downtown Toronto but that's where they chose to do it. Wish they had chosen some place closer to where we all lived and went to school - more midtown than downtown. I did a lot of searching online trying to find a hotel closest to the restaurant. I don't want to drive and pay to park. Would rather walk from the hotel. I'm guessing I'll take a pair of walking shoes to walk the couple of blocks. I don't know whether I booked a good hotel or not. I didn't want to ask anyone. It looks nice online. Why, at my age, I need help in booking a hotel room? It really doesn't matter the quality of the hotel when I am just there to sleep one night, does it? I'll just have to trust it's a good place. I took a bit of a higher price so that I wouldn't get charged if I cancelled one day before. I'm looking forward to the evening with old friends, but not looking forward to the drive there or around the downtown area.

I hope you have fun. I hope you don't end up doing what I did in Seattle. I got lost. What happened was the onramp I was going to take was closed. I got lost trying to find another onramp going the direction I wanted to go on the freeway. When I stopped at a store to ask direction they must have figured it was funny and gave me bogus directions. When I didn't find an onramp I stopped at a gas station and asked directions. The attendant told me that I was given bogus directions. He told me how to get where I wanted to go and within 5 minutes I was on the freeway.

GPS comes in really handy these days. Since the hotel doesn't have parking I'm going to get someone to drive me to a subway station, then I won't leave the family without a car. Then someone will have to pick me up again the next day.

@patgalca There was no GPS when I got lost in Seattle. I would have never got lost in the first place if that stupid onramp wasn't closed. I hope all works out well for you and you have fun.

I usually go on Yelp to read reviews and go with a hotel with a reliable reputation. I hope the one you chose works for you!!

I saw some reviews on the booking.com website. I think hotels that are right in downtown Toronto are all relatively high class hotels. I picked one that I felt was closest to the restaurant and had the date available at a reasonable price.

@infatuatedbby Mixed reviews on YELP, but the most recent ones are good (the hotel has been recently updated), and I'm only staying one night so no biggie. Read there is no parking so having someone in my family drive me to a subway station will be the best thing for me to do.
