This morning, I went to the city to buy my medicines namely: Spironolactone, Citicoline, and Betacard. The Citicoline was the medicine my neurologist prescribed me to take for 1 month. This is a brain stimulant and it also improves the oxygenation of the brain. I bought the Citicoline (20 pieces) at TGP and this cost me P880.00. I take this capsule twice a day. The Carvedilol and the Spironolactone are my medicines for the heart ailment I have. I bought this at Mercury Drugstore. There is a law here that stores should give the exact change to the buyer. I and my sister are noted to always ask for the exact change. The amount of all the medicines I bought was P355.50 but the saleslady did not give me the 50 centavos change. I spoke loud again;” You do not have 50 cents again? Why don’t you exchange your bills at the bank and get 25 cents?” the lady did not respond. You cannot have a peso without 25 cents, right? You cannot have a hundred if you lack a peso.

That's not right at all - just think how much they make if they do that to every customer.

Whoa! I had noticed that too even at supermarkets. They usually don't give the centavo, but at least, they ask if we have those loose coins or if it's okay if they can't give the exact change..

I just had 25 cents in my purse. I usually carry many 25 cents so I can have back an exact change but this morning, it was only a single 25 centavos.

Good that you do that. It is not really about the money but it is the principle. It has been common that stores shortchange us with centavos. I hate it because it is a form of stealing from customers.

yes, that is definitely cheating and stealing. What if they are the buyers and they do not get their exact change?

@ridingbet True, actually i am asking the cashier to do the other way around. If she has no change then she should be the one to bear the loss not me.

@salonga that is true. they gain much with 25 cents not given to each customer, and 4 customers is already a peso.

Now you make me feel guilty. I always use 25 centavos for making a wish on wishing wells.

@ridingbet I will put that in consideration though I love peso coints because they can buy candies.

This is a common practice in Italy, while I never had problems here in Switzerland, they always have the change.

Many stores are practicing this, not returning the change of 25 cents or 50 cents or just give us candies as our lose and in my case if I buy to the mall, I bring with me many cents so that when paying the total amount due and I found out that there is a lose, so I give the teller immediately the needed cents.

I also do that, but it was only one 25 cents in my purse. Yes, we cannot pay a tricycle driver with many candies to cover the P10 fare, right?

@cacay1 there are comments of salesmen here that other buyers throw away the 25 centavo coins, that is rude. They can just earn and pay them to other commodities, right?

Some people who works in this kind of store should give the change. Is there any actions given after talking to the clerk?

none. the saleslady just stared at me. Sometimes instead of giving me 50 cents, I am given a peso. That time though, there was no immediate response from them.

Having change is a hard part. these days with internet banking we have to be sure of this too.

internet banking I think allows us to withdraw even the exact change; only in the bank when we withdraw the exact amount will there be a problem, example, if you withdraw 3 centavos.

I went to the super market and they didn't give me centavos but it was good since it's a little gain for me and i was not in a hurry. i think it was one peso, not centavo.

that is great. yes, if I need 75 cebts and I ask for it, the cashier gives me a peso. Anyway, they have many gains with not giving the exact change to others.

It happened to me in Robinson's in our place. The cashier didn't give the exact change. I reported it to their supervisor. From that, everytime I go there they give me the exact change.

I have seen so may cashiers who can not make change. If the cash register does not tell them the amount, they are totally lost.

some are also poor in Math/Arithmetic. A simple subtraction and they cannot even do it. I am also poor in math but at least I can add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

They should not be because they are not demonetized.

yes, better to give the exact or else I also berate them. Why, you cannot earn a peso if it is only 75 centavos, right?
