I think Euthanasia is a better way

euthanasia

Perhaps you may not agree with me, but sometimes I really think that actually Euthanasia is very mercy. It is almost like dying peacefully without pains. My sister-in-law's mother-in-law is a diabetic. Due to the serious diabetes, lately she had to cut her foot... Twice... I feel sad for her. It is not only painful, but also hopeless. Besides, she is already over 80 years old, I really think that she doesn't have to suffer all of this. In brief, I personally think that if I was under that kind of situation, I would prefer to have the Euthanasia.

I can understand what you say youless. When I read about your sister in laws mother in law..it is so very sad. I am thankful that my Mother is yet healthy at 87. I am not sure if it were me and I were very ill what I would think about euthanasia..but yes it is merciful in a way.

Long life with good health is lucky. Long life without good health is suffering.

Oh dear, that is very sad. Does this old lady agree to the treatment? Some old people refuse treatment because they know that it is pointless. They will tell the doctor that they want to die in dignity.

Here there is no Euthanasia. As her children, I think it is not a right for them to choose whether their mother to give up treatment or not. You know this is totally against the traditional Chinese thoughts. Even if everybody thinks it is meaningless to keep on the treatment, but nobody will dare to say give it up. Otherwise one day he/she may be blamed and accused that he/she is a bad person who gives up mother. This is why I think we need to have a change. In this case, it is really pointless. She just suffers longer time and that's all.

@youless We do not have euthanasia here too. However, the doctors have accepted that in many cases, treatment only leads to prolong suffering, and the patients will not have dignified existence. They are willing to accept the decision of the patients, and their families. In some cases, these patients are sent to hospice for palliative care

That is a decision that each person should make for themselves.

If she is suffering and in pain that can not be controlled and it is what she wants then I would agree. Just because someone is old does not mean they can't enjoy life but when it gets to suffering then yes!

There are few countries offer Euthanasia anyway.

@youless Yes but it is very expensive to travel to Switzerland it will cost around £10,000 or $13,500 to go to the clinic to be euthanised.

I feel the same. There is no point in being there when all you feel is pain and nothing else.

Under certain circumstances I think you're right. Some people spend years existing rather than living.
