My husband's treasures

Yesterday my husband was working on the tractor...I thought. I found out differently! He came in the house and said, "Look what I found." I was hoping he found money out in the yard! LOL, no way. In his had was a little snapping turtle. He was little but really big in the ugly category! Ruby was extremely interested but we wouldn't let her 'play' with it, I was afraid it would bite her. His mom lives in our pond. Now that we saw him there must be a daddy in the picture too. He was in the driveway near the garage, and that's a long walk for a little guy back to the pond so my husband gave him a helping hand to get back where he belonged. Later in the day my husband was on the porch getting the grill hot and he came in with something in his hands...I thought it was a bird...but no it was toad, a decent size toad had been sitting on our porch steps. Again, Ruby wanted to rip this guy's head off! He was given a helping hand to the other side of the fence where he belongs. Little boys never do grow up do they? Photo is mine.

Since the pond is a long way for a small turtle to walk, maybe it was thinking of riding back on the tractor.

He is lucky he didn't get squished under the tractor tires! Those are ugly turtles...

@AbbyGreenhill How can you say such unkind things about a poor little turtle?

Some little girls like such critters, too. Cute photo, by the way.

@sallypup I was never into bugs or reptiles, but I wasn't a frilly girl either...middle of the road and didn't like to get my hands dirty - still don't.

@AbbyGreenhill Tom girls and women naturalists. When our daughter was young we looked for creatures for her to explore and learn about. We found garter snakes etc. She learned to love such fine fellas.

He won't pick up a snake I'm sure of that...we've had our share of them over the years...we had one in the pool our first summer here.

@AbbyGreenhill Oh good heavens. How on earth did you manage to get it out of there? I don't think that I would even have gone near the pool again... or at least search the water very carefully in case he was hiding! Shudder...

@Hate2Iron My husband used the net. At least we knew where he was and he wasn't very big and not a poisonous snake.

I can see myself in your husband... Having a lot of pets really extracts the childhood in us. By the way, I think that's a cute turtle.

This kind bites. We had two in a pond at a previous house, the pond went dry and boogied down the driveway and looked really mad...they are mean turtles.

Are there fish in your pond? If so will the turtles eat them?

Lots of fish: catfish, bass, sunnies - I don't think turtles eat fish - they eat bugs and stuff.

there is this toad, I call it the poo toad because it looks like a dog poo, that likes to sit on our back patio and stare at the window, and the dogs. then it hops off. visits on and off during the summer.
