I usually joke around about being clumsy when people see bruises on my arms or legs but truth be told, most of the time the black and blue marks are the result of insulin injections that hit scar tissue or were too close to other injection sites. It goes without saying that if you want to get a grip on your sugar levels and are using insulin you are going to need to rotate your injection sites or risk having the insulin be forced back out of the skin. The above photo is of my left arm, you can see it's fairly bruised but you can't see all of the colors that make up the bruise. Chances are I will have this for two to three weeks providing I don't forget to avoid my left arm completely. I am usually pretty good about shooting in a different spot but when I have to do five shots a day you sort or run out of viable places to stick yourself. There are a couple of ways to speed up the healing process for bruises like, the easiest one is using a zinc-rich lotion to promote skin growth to force out the damaged cells. Since this is on my arm and no one is going to be seeing it, I'll just leave it alone and wait it out. Image: Me Are you an insulin-dependant diabetic? Do you get bruises from injections? Do you prefer the insulin pens or the vials?

aawe im not diabetic but i was confined in a hospital for a very long time and i had to go through hundreds of IVs. there were times that it took them 10-17times to inject before they can successfully find a vein. i had bruises everywhere on both arms including my leg.

That sucks, I am sure that they gave you heparin shots every other day too (to keep your blood from clotting)

5 injections a day sounds like a part time job, plus managing the bruising. Geez.

Its a quick prick (LOL) but trying to find viable spots can get tough. Legs, arms, belly are the most popular but you have to make sure you rub the skin afterward or the insulin can dribble back out

That is painful. Is there a way for you to take medication so that you do not have to inject 5 times a day?

I wish I could combine the two insulin's and only take three shots a day but it isn't structured to workt hat way once inside the body

I had no idea you have to rotate spots. I learn something new everyday on here.
