My Ride in an Ambulance

I don't want to say this is my first ride, because it might not have been. Anyway, it's the first one I remember. This is inspired by @JaboUK It was during a bad time in my marriage. The end was drawing near. The kids were still all at home, so not sure how old they were. It was before the temporary split in our marriage though. I had been having trouble with my left knee and suddenly I could barely walk or not walk. I needed to get to the emergency room. We didn't have a car at the time so the only way was by ambulance and we also didn't have a phone, so that meant waiting until a neighbor was awake so we could call one. I told my daughter to run down to that person's house and call the ambulance. I did my best to get dressed, very hard to do when you're in a great deal of pain and the person you hope would help, refused. When the ambulance arrived, the paramedics had to carry me down the stairs as there wasn't enough room to bring the gurney up the stairs. No, my husband didn't help get me down the stairs. My husband did not go along, but stayed home with the kids. I ended up being in the hospital for a week with bursitis in my knee and then had to learn to walk with crutches. It was weeks before my knee was well enough to walk without crutches or a lot of pain. My husband visited me only once and then for about five minutes. Well that was the sad state of our marriage at the time. No compassion of any kind. Okay, not a good story about my first ride in an ambulance. I was hurt that he cared so little about me and the pain I was going through. Those days are long over, and I'll never see him again.

Riding in an ambulance is never fun. But when you're in physical pain and someone is hurting you emotionally, as well, it only makes things worse. Compassion was the least he could have shown the mother of his children. But, it is what it is. He made his decisions and you got through it because God brought you through it. The thing I like about stories like this is that you're looking back on it. You survived it. And I'm sure you're stronger for it, too. xoxo

I could understand that your husband had to stay with the kids when you first went to the hospital, but it's unforgiveable that he only came for 5 minutes after that. No wonder the marriage didn't last. Thank you for the mention.

That's only one of many reasons why the marriage didn't last.

My Dad had bursitis in his knee, it was awfully painful. Its a shame that you had to go to the hospital without his help, but maybe he wouldn't have been much help anyways.

@just4him I understand what you mean. If a person no longer want to be an unit, there's no keeping them there.

@just4him I look at it this way, for YEARS I put into the system, paying taxes and not taking help. if I need free or help now and then, oh well.

It is what it is. I'm just surprised I loved him even with the way he treated me. It's over and as I said, I'll never see him again.
