Day 17 Psalm 17 Psalm 17:1 < Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goes not out of feigned lips. 2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal. 3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. 4 Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. 5 Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. 6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. 7 Show thy marvelous loving kindness, O thou that saves by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. 8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, 9 From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. 10 They are enclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly. 11 They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth; 12 Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places. 13 Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword: 14 From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fill with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. 15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. When you pray, you want God to hear you. You want to know your prayers will not go unanswered. David prayed with confidence, knowing God would hear him. He wanted God to judge him and not his enemies. He reminded God what kind of people his enemies were and asked for God’s deliverance from them. With boldness, David asked that God keep him as someone precious, the apple of his eye, and hide him under the shadow of his wings. You can pray with the same confidence. As Christians, you are the apple of God’s eye. You are precious in his sight. His promise to you is to take care of you and keep you safe from all those who come against you. Hebrews 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having a high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Just as David prayed with full assurance that God would answer him, we too, can pray with the same assurance and boldness because we are covered with the blood of Jesus. And one day, just as David prayed, we too will see Jesus face to face. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for hearing my prayers. Help me to come boldly into your presence knowing and being confident that you will take care of me when people who don’t know you come against me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. It's not MY gospel, but God's. I'm just doing what I hope is his will in bringing these studies through his guidance.

This reminds me of something I heard a while back. I should not pray like a beggar but as a child of the King.

Yes, the rain of God's blessings. It's a weapon at our disposal against Satan when we pray, and pray with confidence.

I pray a lot when I have an important decision to make. I usually receive a sign shortly after. So definitely, ask and thou shalt receive.

@just4him I agree! I also almost always receive signs in the most unexpected way. But when you do see them, you realise what it is immediately.

I think we all pray harder during those times of difficult decisions. Even something as minor as who to vote for in the Primary this past week. I found myself praying about who to vote for. The decision wasn't an easy one.

I know God hears our prayers. He answers them in His time and way. I think people get discouraged because of this. They want something one way and now and don't consider that He has something better in His time, not ours. I also think we approach God more with a shopping list of do this for me prayers rather than coming boldly and talking with him saying Lord I need you to...(fill in the blank) prayers. Great lesson and reminder. Have a blessed day

I'm doing my best not to bring a shopping list to God, but have a prayer conversation with God as David did. He talked to him, reminded him, and expected that God would come through for him, not because of anything he did or was, but because he knew God loved him and knew what was best for him. He didn't bring a shopping list to God. Blessings my friend on the new day ahead.

@Dena91 It was many years ago when a pastor said in one of his messages that prayer was like talking to your best friend. You wouldn't go to their house and just talk to them and leave and not expect them to talk back to you. I started to change the way I prayed at that point. I hope your day is blessed

@just4him You and I talk with God in the same way but so many just go to him saying I need this, do that for me, never really developing a trust that they can talk with as with a friend. It has taken me a long time to develop this way of praying and I am thankful that I have, It's a sweet communion we have. Have a blessed day
