A Mexican Dinner

The place I work at gives it's employees a free item each week. We don't get to choose the item has it's pre chosen for us, but we have the option to pick the items for each week up in one fail swoop. We can also only get only one (quantity) of the items, no getting two bags of chips and having them both be free. We do also have the 10% discount on most of our brand products, except for the meat, deli and I think produce counters. This month's theme is Mexican Food. I believe it's three different types of salsa, some cheese and chips. It's a good combination but it's also meant to entice us. If we are getting all that for free, why not buy meat? Ahh, but we don't get a discount on the meat you see. Either way I guess I can't complain too much, as for the most part, the items are something the majority of employees and their families would eat. I might get the chips, salsa and cheese. Oh and yes I may even go ahead and get some hamburger meat and maybe even our brand block of velveeta cheese. If I get the hamburger meat, I'll have to get lettuce and tomatoes as well. Ah, more enticement to buy. If I get the velveeta cheese I'll also have to buy some rotel tomatoes. What else would you make out of several different types of salsa, chips and cheese? I might use the chips in a tortilla soup, though I do prefer buying a 99 cent pack of like 30 tortillas and making the chips myself. I might use the cheese on top of another meal altogether. If I make tortilla soup I have to make it flavorful without the spice (my family, nor I really, can handle too much spice.) Have you ever worked for a place that offered food incentives?

I have never worked at a place that offered food incentives but I get free food incentives for joining rewards that I frequently shop at. Like on going rewards or during my birthday month especially. That's really nice to have themes and you're right - with the items they give you're like obligated to get meat, then if you do - you'll need other ingredients too!! Essentially using your paycheck toward the store for food! Smart !!

Yes but then every dime we put in will eventually find it's way back to us through a profit sharing incentive program. Where we might then use the money to buy groceries... Round and Round it goes haha.

I've worked for places where you can get one meal free (restaurants) or a discount (fast food restaurants.) it wasn't until recently that we were given the free stuff. Probably middle of last year it started up.

my boss sometimes buy us pizza, cup cakes, burgers, and more. they're all free, he feels that we needed to be bribed to give him good stats.

You remind me of another "incentive" we have at work. We now have these monthly "poll" type things we have to do and one of the co managers "bribes us" with food to get us to do it. The only thing is we are the last shift in and the first shift out, so we NEVER get any of these "bribes" as it's all gone by the time we get there.

@MGjhaud Yes, but such is life. I prefer the shift,l even if I don't prefer the situation.

Just make it into a casserole and then you don't have to buy the lettuce and tomatoes.

Had not thought about that at all, that's a really good idea! Hmm I could buy a box of mexican rice, they aren't too expensive and some refried beans as well, to go wit it.

@celticeagle I used to do that myself but I haven't really tried anything new lately. I think I know what to do to make it a casserole as is but it wouldn't hurt to look at others interpretations either. Thanks for the idea.

I worked for a pharmaceutical company where we were given items at heavily discounted rates.

@ScribbledAdNauseum What would be the problem anyway?

@ScribbledAdNauseum When we get a facility to get them at discounted rates we take advantage of that. Ofcourse prescription was required. There were rules that we needed to follow. They were only for personal use. They also had supplements that do not need prescriptions

Mexican Food is still one of my favorites but it's not as easy for me to stomach as it used to be. I used to be able to eat anything but the spiciest mole not I can't even eat a jalapeno without crying.

In the past, I worked in a restaurant and we workers got a free meal during our break.

Not all restaurants do that so it's great that yours did. Was that the only perk? You weren't offered reduced meal prices for taking anything home?
