Thread is not what it used to be.

Decades ago, I sewed a lot, besides doing a lot of other things. I was a multitasker then.
But I have noticed that not only my hands, fingers and eyes are worse, but the thread is not as good as the one I used way back then.
I bought Coats and they had 2 rypes of thread. One was cotton (and it WAS cotton!) and the other was of a form man made thread.
I worked most part of the day and I could not sew the duvet. I wanted to turn a large king size one into a twin bed one.
The easy part was to get the feathers away from where I was going to sew. But while I sew, the thread would be cut after maybe sewing 2 unches.
I gave up. I will sew another bit tomorrow. I hope I finish it before the Winter comes.

Threading the needle of the sewing machine was hard because of my eyes and fingers and then it got cut after a small while.

@allknowing The thread also opens in 2 theads while you are sewing and finally you are sewing with half of it until it cuts

@marguicha It is the cuttin that I was talking about. It is because of the quality of the thread that it snaps that way

I've also noticed that thread is not as good as it used to be & it breaks easily. The price has gone up but the quality has gone down

I think that is the story of modern life. Quality is failing and it makes it so hard to cope.

I have not sewn in a while, but I also find that if I have the machine adjusted wrong the thread breaks a lot.

First question...was the thread new? Old thread breaks easily. Was the sewing machine needle in the machine properly, was there a burr or sharp spot on the needle? We want to blame the thread, but often it is a problem somewhere else.
