The Human Hand

Have you ever thought about your hands as being “instruments of precision?” Just think about what all the human hand is capable of: threading a needle, painting a portrait, or playing a musical instrument and so many other skills. Think about the “sense of touch” that your hands possess. Even with your eyes closed, our hands are very sensitive. A brief touch tells us whether an item is fur, paper, metal, water, wood or skin. Grasping something and manipulation are possible because the human hand has more than 50 bones and also joints and ligaments that make the hand so flexible. The opposable thumb is mounted on what is called a saddle joint which along with muscles and other tissues, gives the thumb amazing flexibility and strength. The hand also has three sets of muscles: Extensors and flexors in the forearm operate the fingers by means of tendons. The hand would be very bulky if these muscles were in the hand. Only one set of muscles are in the hand and these give the fingers precision of movement. As I am typing this on a keyboard, I’m realizing just how flexible my hands and fingers actually are. Our fingertips have about 2,500 receptors in just one sixth of a square inch, each having its own function, which enables you to feel texture, temperature, wetness, vibration, pressure, and pain. This makes the human finger the most sensitive touch sensor known. To me, this information brings to mind what the Bible says at Psalm 139:14 “I shall laud you (God) because in a fear-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful as my soul is very well aware.” Verse 16 says: “Your eyes saw even the embryo of me, and in your book all its parts were down in writing.” This is the DNA that Charles Darwin knew nothing about, when he came up with the theory of evolution. Our Creator, made us in a wonderful way. Each part of our body is wonderfully made. Picture by Pixabay

Our hands help us to do everything that needs to be done. We can cook and eat with them when hungry.
