I Finally Figured it Out!

I have always said I am not computer savvy. This rang true with several things that went wrong with my laptop. One of which is the problem with not being able to print anything.
For the past few months I have had this problem with my printer. Asked my daughter several times to help me, but whenever we got together it slipped our minds. Like mother like daughter they say. LOL
So today I was determined to fix the blasted thing or end up tossing it out the door. I am proud to say that after a few minutes, well actually about 20 minutes, I was able to find the information I needed. Downloaded new drivers, reconnected the laptop to the printer and it is now up and running.
I scanned photos of my grandson. Printed a pattern for a scarf that I have been wanting to try since last year.
You can teach an old dawg to do new tricks. I think I deserve a treat.

I couldn't tell you exactly what I did. I just decided to throw caution to the wind and dive right in. And I figured it out!

It does me too. That is why I often ask my daughter for her help. She is more savvy than I am when it comes to electronics.

Had to it all. Was a bit worried that I would mess it up. But the instructions I found were very easy. Don't know why I panic when I have to fix the electronic devices.

@Marcyaz I was surprised at how simple it was. Even so I was worried that I would somehow screw it up. Chalk it up to insecurities.

@ElusiveButterfly
It seems you do just fine and the instructions must have been very good.

@LovingMyBabies my daughter will fix my computer when I have problems. I knew that there had to be a simple fix to the printer, but lacked confidence to do it on my own. But, I figured if I screwed it up too badly I would wait for my daughter to fix it.

congrats! always time fer a treat when doin' battle'n winin' with thie techy schtuff. sadly when i updated the drivers fer the printer here, some'f the functions're now obsolete. one'f the reasons i got this particular printer was coz i could jest pop the sim card into't 'n not e'en bother with the puter. alas, that no longer works 'n the printer'll not work without the new drivers...
what're ya doin' to fashion that scarf, hon? knittin'? crochet? 'r somethin' entirely diff'rent?

It is a knitted scarf. I plan on making them for gifts if I can figure out how to do the pattern.

Pretty awesome you figured it out. I'm afraid I would have had to wait for one of my sons to fix my problem.

I had waited a couple of months for my daughter to fix it for me. Problem was that when she came to visit, we visited and forgot completely about the printer problem.

@fishtiger58 I worked with a dear lady, who trained me to do her job. She stayed with the company for about a year after I was hired. She had sticky notes everywhere. When she left I took them down. I did keep notes in a notebook just in case I needed a quick check.

The default printer may have been set to a file instead of the printer, which would be reset after installing new drivers. It is not likely to have been the drivers alone because unless the operating system is very old it should run a printer without proprietary drivers.

It was set to a file. Once I downloaded the new drivers it worked.

Congratulations on figuring it out!
Glad your printer works now. Normally installing anything, or downloading anything - a nice restart will work!

Here, have a muffin! I "know" what to do for those things, but do not do it. As long as I have one computer that will print, it will not matter if my laptop does not.

good for you fixing the blasted printer, good downloading the new drivers, sometimes you have to reconnect the computer before it will work again.
