Tax Time

Hubby insists on claiming a business, I do not agree. I do not see that it benefits us at all. So he puts off doing taxes, buys an expensive version of Turbo Tax and then fusses at the computer as well.
I have told him I will not go anywhere or anything until the taxes are done. We missed church, he is barely started.
His computer is so old he has to use my desk top. I am propped up comfy on the sofa, feet on a foot stool and laptop on a stand in front of me. I am here when he needs me, though.
I like my sofa. I may find I have to wash a few dishes, but I want to read your posts for today.
I have read about an invasion by a drone, and a plagiarist who has been pretty busy. Oh, and another friend or two doing taxes.
I will be around quite a bit. Moral support and cleaning the filing cabinet. Both are essential tasks.

Government takes my taxes every year. I am waiting for a letter now to see who took them this time. But the way we see it, something is paid.

We had a couple of years like that. They sent us an extra check evidently. We were gonna save it, but after a while we spent it, and then they realized they had refunded us twice. So they took it back.

I bet you could have gone to H&R Block for about the same amount that he paid for the Turbo Tax. They will also represent you if need be.

We did H&R Block one year. The next year we went through turbo tax and they found us more money. Turbo Tax will represent us if we need it. We have also used an accountant. I think we can do it ourselves next year.

@Marty1 ....You sound like my daughter. If you are audited by the IRS and have had your taxes done by H&R Block they will represent you at no charge. Defending their work basically.

I cooked all day yesterday and so we had a nice relaxed dinner. It feels good to be done.

We have used accountants in the past, and I think he could just do a regular 1040 form but we will discuss this next January.

@Marty1 When she said "claim" it just meant he showed where the amount was owed because it was an expense for filing, I think. 1040 is where you take all the standard deductions. You do not itemize, I believe. It has been a long time since I did them. There is also a 1040 A and a 1040 EZ and a 1040 ES.

@GardenGerty I only ever used an accountant when i was working full time and renting out my house. The accountant did a better job than I did and I was able to claim back his fee.

I would favor a flat tax. So much easier.

I used to baby sit for an accountant. Taxes do not appeal to me as a job. No more FAFSA for us either. It is all good.

@GardenGerty We've got one more year of FAFSA, maybe two, depending on when Z graduates. I'll be glad when it's done with.

It is all done. Turbo Tax gets more complicated and more expensive every year. It took both of us and a couple of calls to the helpline, but they are done. It feels good.

We bought the software for Turbo Tax months ago, then he logged in to the website, and of course they wanted money again. That is when I ended up talking with the customer service guy.

I already did my taxes. But I did write on my blog Friday about taxes. About hour later I got a scam call saying the IRS has a lawsuit against me. lol

Sometimes it takes an ultimatum to get something done. Hope the taxes don't take up all your day.

It took most of the day and now it is behind us. What used to be very simple software is more confusing each year and more expensive and less helpful. We will go a different way next year.

@GardenGerty I used to hate tax time - not that I ever had to do it but somehow I had to cajole Vince into doing it.

Because I have an inheritance and my hubby retired we have my tax guy do them. He is an old friend so he comes to my house and does't charge me a ton of money to do them. We did ours in Feb.
