It is not what you know, it is WHO you know.
Employed because she/he knew someone to back him or her up.
This is one of the not so good system here in the Philippines. This "employing" scheme are more common in public offices or agencies.
They landed a job because they knew someone on a high office, that acts like their "passes".
In the police force, it does happen.
I knew one who is 'flat footed", and not really a good thing, but his father knew someone in the "high office".
When our neighbor, who happens to be a policeman, beat this 3-year old kid to death, we question his psychological capacity, on why he became a member of the force with such questionable mind. Well, thanks to his high ranking brother and aunt.
This "system" should be totally be gone. For the whole agency will reflect on anything "unprofessional" act they will do in the future.

It is of course, much the same here regarding the injustice of getting into these positions of authority..I hate the saying..it is not what you know, but who you know. It reeks of poisonous favoritism. May that police officer who did that to the child rot in hell.

killing a 3 year old by this mentally deranged policeman should be caught and i think that his backers should not back him up. an innocent child was murdered by this crazy person.

@ridingbet he is now on provincial jail, good for him. if the mother won't pursue the case, the social worker will.

@Lucky15 the aunt? not even an immediate member of the family? even then, this policeman should be held liable and be put to jail then "tadtarin ng pinung-pino".

Exactly - it isn't what you know, it is who you know and your connections.
It sucks!

You are so right . This kind of system in the Philippines should really be stopped . Sad that some more deserving employee to be weren't hired because they hired those who knows "someone " big in the company .
This happens also here in our company .
Though , the one i had requested to be hired was my husband in one of the companies my boss handles . He was overqualified , but then he has to have the job or his money from his early retirement offered to him , would be depleted because the businesses he invested in , didn't prosper.

Well this is true and i doubt it only happens in the philippines. This is what connections are for. Anyway, some Agencies dont just rely on connections. Granted you have a back up this doesnt mean u can readily be in, you have to be qualified and pass the exams. Tho my last job really was part of the institution you mentioned. They prefer those who are endorsed by people and personality they know but most of the people endorsed are really qualified too. Maybe because people or backera often endorsed highly qualified individuals, after all if they have their name on the line. They kind of vouch for them.

I knew many of employees who got their job especially in government offices through who you know, not what you know. This employees who got this kind of job are those position who doesn't need civil service eligibility like utility and janitorial personnel but those that need eligibility position, these employees who got this job thru who you know will not be applied.
