At the dentist with my son

Well today my son is finally getting his cavities taken care of at the dentist. We just got called into the exam room and he is getting sealants put on first.
He isn't nervous so I am very happy about that. I hope everything goes perfectly and he won't have any pain when the fillings are all done.
I will take him to Walmart after to get a toy as a reward.
I attached a photo of the adorable tooth chair in the waiting room.

When we (my siblings and I) were younger, we were always nervous to go to the dentist with our mother because of the frightening photos hanging on the walls of the dentist's clinic showing a dentist having a hard time pulling his patient's tooth to the point that he used his foot to step on the armrest of the dental to get a leverage for the pull. Ice cream, though, was the prize we looked forward to after the extraction LOL!

Aww I can understand why that photo scared you and made you not want to go to the dentist. I was never scared to go. I never had a cavity until I was 32 so I never had pain at the dentist growing up to be scared of. That is nice your parents let you get ice cream after.

@shaggin You're one lucky guy, my friend, having not experienced the fear of going to the dentist during your childhood years :) You have such health teeth.

I hope he won't be in any pain when it's done. And I hope he enjoys his reward!

They do not use any needles there so he had no pain during or after. They use some kind of numbing liquid. He got to choose what kind of air scent he wanted to smell from the laughing gas. He chose rootbeer. First time I ever heard of anything like that. They had a lot of flavors of toothpaste for when they get cleanings as well.

@shaggin I wonder how common laughing gas is? I positively hate having my teeth cleaned, but laughing gas could be the answer!!

@Hate2Iron I don't know how common it is I have only had one cavity filled and they gave me a needle with novacain. It made him have a little bit harder time talking after the procedure but not badly.

Well hope all went well for your son. That's the least place I like to go too is the dentist. I have to go next week and not looking forward to it but gotta have a cleaning so that's not too bad.

I actually have an appointment tomorrow to get a cleaning done. It has been awhile. I am supposed to go every 6 months (or a year) I think it is but I had to cancel twice so it is over that time. I don't expect any problems so I am not worried.

Aw that tooth chair is cute! That's awesome your son isn't afraid - afterwards he'll be treated a reward if he does a good job through everything!

Even if he had cried or something I would have let him pick out a little toy just to make him feel better about what he had to go through. He did great. He was not scared at all and didn't cry or anything. I thought he was very brave. I have never had to get cavities filled when I was young but I think I would have been terrified.

@shaggin I never had cavities when I was younger either. I would too be terrified. When I was younger I went in for some teeth pulls the ones that my dad couldn't pull out (the further back ones) and that was it. Glad your son was a trooper! Did he pick a toy at Walmart afterwards?

@shaggin How sweet. I wonder how comfortable it would be, not that a three year old would care lol!

@Hate2Iron I hadn't thought of that but it doesn't look like it would be very comfortable now that you mention that.

Yes it was great that he wasn't afraid. At the previous office he was afraid because they wouldn't let me go in the room with him. Due to that I found a different place.. this dental office... and they were wonderful. They were really nice to my son and so he felt very comfortable and relaxed. Plus I got to be in the room with him while he was having his teeth worked on. This is going to be both of my children's new dentist from now on. I got them both signed up for cleanings in May.

I love the chair and yes, the first time you experience more than cleaning is usually stressful because the child does not know what is happening. The best you can do is explain to him what they will be doing and will there be any pain and if there is pain, what you will do to help and how long it will take. Yes, a new toy from Walmart will help, lol.

He was not nervous at this office at all. They are very nice there. The other office we went to they wanted him to leave the room with them and I could not come in while he was having a cleaning or fillings or anything. He was scared so I found this place instead that I could stay with him while he had all the work done.
