Marvel - 1973 – spoiler alerts Hulk stories work best when he is on dry land, so stories that take him into outer space or underwater as in this case, are less than convincing. Hulk finds himself abducted by yet another lunatic intent on destroying humanity. The villain is Captain Omen, a Captain Nemo type of character operating from a high tech submarine base close to the Arctic Circle. He has never let his people see the surface World which he describes to them as evil, and which he hopes to destroy by causing World War Three. Hulk is literally out of his depth as he gets the bends trying to swim for the surface so he is trapped 5,000 fathoms down, and Omen forces him to wear deep sea diving equipment to walk forever on the seabed as his slave, dependent on air from Omen’s city being piped through to him. I have sadly yet to find the next issue which will show how Hulk / Banner escapes this intriguing sorry fate. Arthur Chappell
