Our Day In The Allegheny Mountains

Canada
April 12, 2016 6:22am CST
It started with my last discussion about not being able to open the window at the border while going through customs.... Once across the border our next stop was in Orchard Park. Destination – my Bank. My credit card was compromised. I have a new one and wanted to change my pin number. I thought it would take a few minutes, it took over an hours. Thankfully the person helping me was delightful, funny and very entertaining. What we hadn't expected was SNOW. No mittens, no boots, no heavy coats and baby it was cold outside. It snowed from Orchard Park to Ellicottville and back. From the bank we headed to Ellicottville. I had a short appointment with an old friend who sells my art, then we had a delicious lunch at our favorite restaurant called “Dina's” While in Ellicottville we drove to the ski hill just to see what changes were made this year. It was snowing hard, the skiing was closed for the season, but it was breathtaking to see the hills covered in snow. At our last stop for photos there was a big van filled with young people who were getting into their ski clothes. We asked them if they were going to ski...their response hell yes, we didn't know they were closed and we came all this way... They were going to walk up and ski down. I wouldn't walk up to ski down but then I'm old... they probably had a blast! Our real destination was Granny's Boot Antiques home of Grevpode Gallery. Granny is from our area and has a huge Antique Barn and Folk Art Studio here in Canada and in New York. She was having a craft show but the SNOW made it impossible. It was canceled and will be on again in May. We will go back in May. Granny and Papa were glad to see us. We had the tour and enjoyed seeing all the treasures she has. They built “bunkies” and an out-house so friends can sleep over. Their own cottage is delightful, warm and inviting. We talked and laughed for hours. We made plans for a sleepover in the summer. We headed home, in the snow, my shiny black car was a dull solid white because of the salt on the roads. When we got to Buffalo we had left the snow behind us. The border was easy, I knew how to open my window now... We arrived home safe and sound. The photo is two shots taken at the Antique barn and the other of a chalet at Holiday Valley the ski resort. I look forward to going again with no snow...

That horse is two horses or one broken one but put together at 90 degree angle or close to it and its hilarious. They are so creative with found treasures. I am looking forward to going back in May and I think by then my van will be full of others that heard about our trip and want to be a part of the next one. Today at the Y, Noreen and I were talking about how much fun we had so we know another friend named Katharine will be with us in May. Thanks for your hugs, right back at you.

Those are beautiful pictures of the Antique barn and chalet. To bad you ran into all that snow and things had to be cancelled.

We had a nice day away from home anyway. Without the show we got to spend more time with our friends to chat and visit.

Just from the top picture it sounds like her shop must be a lot of fun to wander thru. You got a lot done, starting with learning the gadgets of the new vehicle to resetting your pin and then having some fun. Days like that are nice.

@PainsOnSlate , love the photos, those glass works are beautiful, the wooden horse too. And that looks a winter wonderland to me. Granny and Papa sound like a wonderful couple, I would've enjoyed visiting with you all. Enjoy it when you return minus the snow. :)

I am sick of snow. Hopefully it is gone for good. At least where I live. We still had a blast and the show has been rescheduled for the end of May
