Judgement for Ethan Couch

You all remember Ethan Couch (the Affluenza Teen), who killed four people during his drunk driving incident when he was 16; was sentenced to 10 years probation and then he and his Momma fled to Mexico? Now that he is an adult, he went before Judge Wayne Salvant yesterday and was sentenced to prison for a total of two years. That is only 180 days (5 months) for each person he killed as the sentence was to be served consecutively. After he serves that, he still has to complete 8 years of probation, get a mandatory job, he can have no vehicle and drink no alcohol. Needles to say, MADD (Mother Against Drunk Driving) are mad as hell and you can imagine how the families of the deceased feel.
Ethan Couch is not getting out of jail just yet.

I remember this story because we have Couches in our family tree... ours are on the Canadian side of the family in a little town in northern Ontario, but what he got is not close to being long enough for what he did!!

Hopefully when he gets out of jail and has to do probation he doesn't decide to head up north to those relatives @Hate2Iron .

@nanette64 That's all we would need... a spoiled brat. I don't think that he would fit in with my cousin's family lol!

@Hate2Iron That's a good thing. At least some of the family tree has good, common sense.

Why did he run away when he got probation? It is a hassle to be on probation but it is beyond fair for killing those people. Our sentencing laws are weak but that is unbelievable. His mother sounds like she's an enabler.

@nanette64 yes I remember you saying. His situation is very different as he committed a crime whilst committing a crime. In the UK I'm on various newspaper sites and people are always commenting how lax the sentences are here and how we should be more like the US. They'd be surprised to see that sentence.

Totally inadequate for a sentence.

I know @marlina . It should have been 20 years, not 2.

Well, even if it's not enough, it's better that the first probation.

Exactly @LadyDuck , I'm glad the judge had the balls to give some jail time.

I agree with MADD on this subject. I think they need to put MOMMY away for awhile for taking him to Mexico to hide

Oh yeah, Mommy should have gotten at least equal time. She seemed to be completely unphased by the whole thing too.

It still isn't enough punishment. I hope he learned his lesson! His mother should receive prison time, too!

That is a joke, two years for killing 4 people.

Playing Devil's Advocate here - He was only 16, so I honestly think it's enough. He didn't deliberately kill anyone, just didn't know what he was doing. I know, I know - you say I'd feel differently if he'd killed someone I loved, and perhaps I would, but nothing is going to bring those people back.

This just disgusts me. He needs to held accountable for his actions. 5 months for taking life (per person), give me a break. I think its time to vote another judge in whose not afraid to actually sentence a person to prison properly for their crimes.
