My husband won't drink water or any liquid because he's going to the hospital tomorrow morning to have a laboratory test on his fbs. Tomorrow is his monthly laboratory check up so no food intake and liquid intake after 8:00 P.M. He asked me that he'll drink little water and I told him, it's up to you because your son told you that you'll be in the hospital lab at 6:00 A.M. You need to sacrifice and discipline yourself if you're going to have a lab test for an efficient and good result. Friends, does your physician wants you to have a laboratory test before your medical check up? How often do you visit for a lab test?

Yes, it is common for us to fast before a lab test or even a day surgery. The doctors will send us home if we do not follow strictly to their instructions.

Indeed, when we won't follow the instruction given by them, they can't get good results of the lab test.

Yes, i do have my quarterly check-up with the doctor . After the medical check-up , she gives me a referral slip dated after 3 months , for my laboratory examination , the result of which she interprets after . She wants it that way , to ensure that i am always on the normal level of the lab tests .

That is what my husband doctor's did, she gives him a referral slip in advance so when it's your time to return for check up, you can go to the laboratory for testing.

I haven't had to have lab tests although my husband sometimes does. He has Type 2 diabetes so has a routine check every few months.

Fasting is quite disciplining of yourself, just imagine, he has to refrain from drinking fluids and no foods to be taken after 8:00P.M. until 6:00 A.M. It's not easy, sometimes my husband ask me if he can sip even a small amount of water and I only replied to him, you don't want to pursue your lab test? So, he just keep quite.

6am is quite early. So the lab is usually opened so early over there? I don't know if we have the lab test before medical check up, usually we just go straight for the medical check up on our own. Hope everything will be fine for your husband.

Only when i'm sick or am going to have a surgery that requires lab test. I don't have a regular lab test yet. Probably when i reach a certain age and my health is not at its peak anymore, i would.

@toniganzon, yes, mostly younger people and in good condition don't submit thereselves to lab test and if we think we are in good shape, we don't usually visit our doctor.

Lab work is sometimes required before a check up so that the doctor will have time to look over the results. I hope all goes well.

@Teep11, indeed, we have to submit first for lab before going to the doctor and he'll see the result and give medication if there are abnormalities. i hope the result is good.

It was hard to do fasting. from nine in the evening until seven in the morning, but it end to just keep my lips hydrated every few hours. I was planning to do my blood test this week but the request happened two months ago and I stop taking the medication.

You have to ask another request from you doctor so that you can have a lab test, you better have done it now, we really don't know if your sugar is already above border line and others.

I have to do a fasting lab check up twice a year. I am allowed to drink water, but nothing else after 8pm. In fact, I have one coming next week. I'll be very glad to get it over with.

Good and do it soonest, so that you'll know if your blood sugar is normal or not, your cholesterol or whatever, it can be found in the lab test.

I hope the FBS of your husband is normal, my dear Ida. Yes, Ì use to have blood tests before a check-up (usually monthly). The results are evaluated by my Doc. If one shows better result, my meds for that is either reduced or stopped.

i will have my PTPA checked next Wednesday. i think if the FBS should be taken, the person should not est or drink for 8 hours only. if the laboratory will open at 6AM, then your husband could still take water until 10PM. if we fast more than the desired time, there might be a rebound effect, so the FBS might not be high, but low. there are some hospitals though, that require a 12-hour fasting.
