A Day Near The Water

K and I are camping this weekend at a campground called Turkey Point RV Resort. Most of the campers here are year-round or seasonal. There is a single row of sites for short-term campers like us, and the rates a reasonable. Our favorite thing about this campground, other than the relative peacefulness, is that it is right on the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway. They have a nice dock to fish from, or to take photos from. If you time it right, you can get some great shots of sea birds of all different kinds flying about the salt marshes. And you can get some great shots of the huge yachts passing by on the Waterway. If you camp, where is your favorite place to camp?

I'm not a camper. However, it sounds like fun, and I'm hoping you get to see some ospreys! We're on the Intercostal in FL.

When I was a kid there was an osprey nest on top of an old utility pole across the river from the boat landing. I remember my uncle calling him a sea eagle.

I think I saw an osprey today before we left Turkey Point. He was soaring over the salt marsh looking quite majestic. I tried to get pictures but not sure if they turned out.

I haven't went camping in over 20 years, when I got out of the Army. I'd more than had my fair share of camping when we'd go to the field, which was a lot. Sounds like you're having a good time, though.

After 4 years in the infantry, 2 years of that in Korea, and 6 months over two separate DMZ patrol missions, you'd think I never wanted to go camping again. But guess what my buddies and I used to do when we had time off - we went camping.

@DWDavis - I loved going with my grandpa when I was a kid, but couldn't stand going with my family, which is probably part of why I've lost interest.

Hi, i don't camp at all! But I live in an archipelago and me and my family love to go to an island every summer. WE also like going to hot springs and cold springs. We like to stay there for a night or two just enjoying nature and swimming.

Spending a few days at the springs sounds like a nice way to relax and enjoy some family time.

Although I am not a camper, I am with you when it comes to being close to the water. I love staying at places that are close enough that I can hear the water and see it from a distance. Enjoy your weekend.

@DWDavis Although I've never lived right on the water I do love to be near it, when we vacation we tend to find routes to drive along a lake and stay on one too.

I grew up 5 miles from the ocean and when I am far from it for too long I can start to feeling it calling to me. Being on the waterway this weekend helped make me feel much better.

I used to do quite a bit of hiking and walking but now I'm limited because of my hip. I still do what I can, but it's short walks down to the river bank now, instead of backpacking up mountains.

We do camp, and have several state park camps and lakes we go to every year. We also like to try a new camping/fishing place every year.

Exploring new places is a lot of fun. Last summer we camped at a spot along the Blue Ridge Parkway we'd never been to before. We're trying to find some new places for this summer, as well as return trips to old favorites.

@DWDavis the internet is a great tool to help find new places and lakes to visit and fish for us.

We haven't camped in years and the last time we did I would rather not think about, it was in Virginia though. Anyway it sounds like a wonderful time where you are. =)

That sounds like a lovely spot. I haven't done any camping since my early twenties.

With our travel trailer, it hardly feels like camping. It's as if we've brought home with us. Maybe I feel that way because I spent so many years backpack and tent camping.

This is a wonderful spot. Somewhat off the beaten path and very quiet. We are looking into getting an inflatable canoe to bring with us to explore the creeks that cut through the salt marshes.

I used to go camping all the time when I was younger. I just found a camp grounds for campers a few weeks ago but it looks... kind of trashy. I would be afraid to sleep in a tent.

K and I are very careful to investigate the reviews, ratings and affiliations of the campgrounds we stay at. We prefer either KOA or Good Sam campgrounds, or state parks.

Our favorite version of roughing it is finding a hotel, not much into camping. I like the sounds of where you are at though, we love the water. Very soothing. Enjoy your time together.

K and I do enjoy an occasional stay at a nice hotel, but we far prefer camping.
