I think seeing how people used to do things. Hopefully, you are seeing one of the things on a wall at my grandmother's house, in her kitchen. She called it a "kraut cutter". That's what was used to cut the cabbage that would down the line be sauerkraut. I'm sure some of the older mylotters have seen something like this before. It has been on her wall for years, but I just recently took a picture. I like things like that. Anyone else?

There is now on the market something similar to this to cut all kinds of vegetables in different ways.

@marlina Since this is from the 1930s it seems an outdated way to do things. Then again, simplifying things may always bring us back to the past.

My grandmother had something similar, but called it a ribeissen, or something like that. Pretty cool!

I love to see old tools also. I had a feeling that this was for something that would be shredded. I showed it to my husband and he knew right away-of course he likes cabbage and I don't!

I've never seen anything like that, much less used one. It's just a decoration now?

Yes, that's what she uses it for. She's got a few other things on her kitchen wall that they used on the farm when she was a little girl. I'm glad she saved them.

We have butter pats which were used to pat out small pieces of butter then roll them up into curls. I might do it next time we have a dinner party - just to impress my friends. :)
