Obese pigeons

There are a lot of obese pigeons near my house. They are so fat that they can hardly fly or jump out of the way when danger approaches. That is why you can see many of them die in car accident. They just cannot get out of the way even when they see the car approaching very slowly. I feel sad to say that the cats here are well-fed and fat too. They are just not energetic enough to play with the pigeons. They just sleep while the pigeons rest nearby. If only the cats and dogs are more playful, and energetic, perhaps the pigeons do not get so fat.

i love the way you think. You made me smile. I have never seen a fat pigeon but then I don't live in a city, I live in a rural area where all birds work hard to live a happy life...

That's strange as I haven't seen pigeons when I was in Singapore. I did see a cat which had a good figure

They will not bring you to the housing estates where you can see fat pigeons. I do not know how that place becomes the favorite place of those pigeons. Perhaps it is near to shopping mall, and many people just buy something to feed the pigeons.

@youless Wow, your son is really fortunate. I hope he likes it here. Did you bring him to visit our universities? There are two main ones, and many scholars from China study there. I think he will like the study environment.

it's strange that pigeons would get so fat their flight instincts are affected. maybe it's an urban phenomenon also because of the ingredients in city food.

I think they feel very safe in the city. The cars in the housing estate generally slow down because of heavy human traffic. Maybe the fat pigeons do not recognize danger until the cars are near.

So sad to see that obese pigeons, I hope when someone feed them, they must not put more foods so that they won't get more obese and can fly immediately when there are cars approaching them.

I agree. It is very cruel to feed till they are so fat. These pigeons practically do not want to move after they have eaten.

@ladylaura89 That is true, when we feed much our cats, they don't even catch rat and that is the worst scenario where you can see you cats sleeping and the rats are playing.

@ladylaura89 haha, in this case, the cats will get fat, while @ida123 will slim down because she has to run after the rats!

Why do they become obese? Too much fastfood?

Hard to get people to stop feeding the pigeons. The pigeons definitely will not voluntarily go on diet.

I think the dogs and cats find it easier to eat the ready food than to hunt for birds!
