All is not as it seems

On the second day of our holiday we had walked and walked all over the city and seen all we could including shopping in the big stores and felt as if we were intrepid explorers by this time.
The Comedy Festival was on in Melbourne and my friend saw a photo of a comedian she knew and we decided on her recommendation we would go and hear him.
That evening we caught a tram to our destination which was out of the city and far from where we were staying.
I must mention the trams. At first when we caught a tram we wondered why we were unable to speak to the Driver who was locked away behind glass and would tell us to just say sit down and I'll let you know when we arrive. He never wanted our money. Then we discovered there was a free route around the city and when we travelled out of the city we needed to buy a MyKi card which is topped up periodically and is now the only means of paying our fare on public transport.
When we arrived it was a lovely warm evening so we sat outside one of the many many eating places and enjoyed a meal before finding our way to the Theatre. When we arrived we met the Entertainer we had come to hear. He said he was a bit late and would come and let us know when it was time to start.
I was rather perplexed about him coming to find his audience when he was ready.
Soon I realized why he would come and find us He came and led us down some stairs to a room that was done up to appear like a cave. We looked around for a seat and found there were just one other couple and us. We were the audience.
The Comedian was quite good and told us this was his first sojourn out of New Zealand. My friend whispered to me, 'this isn't the guy we were meant to hear. I had kind of come to that conclusion myself.
Anyhow we had an enjoyable evening and decided that whatever we did was an adventure and we were going to enjoy every experience and we did.

The MyKi cards are a bit of a trap aren't they if you don'g know about them. Luckily our son warned us to buy the card and top it up before going anywhere near public transport. On impluse we went to a comedy show too and there was us about six others and the girl's family. It's a hard road for comedians I think. Did you get to the markets?

I noticed there was a bin outside the railway station where people could leave their MyKi cards if they were leaving Melbourne and they would be distributed by a charity.
I visited the Markets bought lots of clothes and fell up a step giving myself a huge bruise on the arm and very very sore ribs.

It certainly feels as if I did break a rib but the pain is slowly subsiding.
I should send you my card so you can give it away in December. We thought we would like to give it to the homeless people, well two maybe. Did you notice how many homeless there were in Melbourne?

@glenniah We lent our MyKi cards to friends who went to Melbourne a month or two ago. We'll probably go again in December so we'll be hanging on to ours. But the bin is a great idea. Sorry to hear you fell. Do you think you broke a rib?

It was a great time Gary, and on the last night I was invited to join a Cruise in July. I do have a big big one coming up next March to the Carribean but this one will just be from Fremantle to Singapore then flying back home. Just to get me in the swing of things for next year :0)

@glenniah OH how lovely Glen. You will love it. I hope you get a couple of days in Singapore after the cruise. Funnily enough I have booked a cruise in two weeks time. Its two weeks around the Western Med. The nice thing about it is that there is no flying involved it is from Southampton and back. Two weeks in total so it should be nice.

Sounds like a great cruise for you Gary. You will be having a ball and no flying is a real bonus.

That's a bit unsettling to not see who you expected to. I'm glad it turned out ok and you enjoyed yourself.

It was more unsettling for my friend as she didn't get the comedian she thought she would, I had no expectations and enjoyed the whole event.
