Life in the Hammock

Earlier, I had written a post about an event I had to work in one of our busy local parks yesterday. During that event, I received great inspiration for an activity today that my son and I could do together!
As our event in the park was wrapping up yesterday, the University of Florida Hammock Club arrived for an event they were staging in the park. Their event was called #UFHammock16, where they invited everyone to come out to the park and set up their hammocks and enjoy a beautiful spring afternoon.
Although I would have loved to have joined the group yesterday, I was quite exhausted from our day-long event, and plus the kids and I didn't have our hammocks with us! But the inspiration stuck in my mind!
This afternoon, after all the chores were done, all the errands were run, and all the kids' homework was finished, we finally had a chance to relax. My daughter was working on a research paper for school, so my son and I grabbed our hammocks and went outside to the woods behind our house, set up our hammocks, and laid out for a couple of hours as the sun started to set tonight. There was a gentle breeze, we had plenty of shade, and it was another gorgeous day out!
My son and I chatted for a little while as we lounged in our hammocks, talking about plans for our next camping trip. After a little while, the comfort of the hammocks begin to get the best of us, and we both ended up falling asleep for a little Sunday afternoon nap.
We couldn't have asked for a better way to end the weekend, than my son and I lying in our hammocks watching the sun sink low below the horizon. It was a peaceful end to a busy and productive weekend. I think we are starting to really like living life in the hammock!
How did you end your weekend? Did you do anything exciting, or did you have a lazy Sunday fun day like my son and I did?

My Fitbit was NOT given a workout. I'm convalescing. But I am curious as to your multiple hammocks. Photos please. This activity sounds like something I would enjoy.

Sorry, didn't take any photos. But picture three trees lined up in a row, pretty evenly spaced. My hammock was tied between tree 1 and tree 2. My son's hammock was tied between tree 2 and tree 3.

@ElizabethWallace Yeah, it's those fancy nylon ones that are popular now. It literally takes me 30 seconds to set it up, which is a huge bonus in my book. Plus, when you're hiking and camping, they weight less and take up less space in your backpack. I love them! But you're right, they're only good if you have trees around! lol

@moffittjc Ah, the old fashioned kind of hammock, easy to carry and easy to hang, as long as you have those trees.

I haven't been in a hammock in years! When we first moved out here to the country, we bought a hammock and put it between two trees, but when the grandkids came to visit, they were really too little to be in it and we worried about them falling out, so we put it up. We never have brought it back out! It sounds like you had a wonderful Sunday!

I could sleep in a hammock every day if I had to! Too bad I can't retire right now and become a beach bum and live down by the ocean with a hammock strung up between two palm trees! That would be the life!

@sgbrown Well, I have the hammock, the sunglasses, and the umbrella drinks, now I just need a beach and two palm trees!

@moffittjc Wouldn't that be nice! With a pair of cool sunglasses and an umbrella drink! That would be the life!

We went to a place called Sucker Pond. It is a local favorite for people who enjoy going mudding. Freaked me out a bit going over the boulders in the road. Yes, boulders. Our truck made it, but it worried me so much that we would take out the muffler or something else that I didn't enjoy myself.
But, on a good note, I slept later this weekend and enjoyed the weather. No rain this weekend.
Maybe I should get a hammock and find the peacefulness of laying around. Sounds like it was quite relaxing for you and your son.

@moffittjc I was worried that we would do the same. Told my husband that if the truck were to break down he would have to walk to work. There is no way I was going to get up at 5:00 to bring him to work. LOL

Your story about the boulders in the road and losing your muffler is exactly what happened to me several years ago with my truck! I was out exploring a mountainous area, and popped my truck into 4-wheel drive to do some off-road exploring. Somewhere along the way I hit some pretty bad rocky terrain and it took out my entire exhaust system! lol

If it's bad for our backs, I haven't noticed yet! In fact, I am so comfortable when I lie in my hammock that I can fall asleep almost immediately!

@moffittjc It's just my back. It doesn't usually like that sort of a curve. They always look great though.

@moffittjc That all sounds so amazing! I have only been in a hammock once. It wasn't a very good one. The scenery was beautiful but where I was specifically was not so good. ( long story involving my mum and the man she was having an affair with ) so I am hoping once day I can use a real hammock in a place I like with better I like too or just alone. OH I would LOVE to use a hammock at night looking up at the stars.

Maybe some day I can take you to a nice spot and we can set up a 2-person hammock and lay in it together and snuggle and watch the stars in the night sky.

I love going to garage sales, although it's been a while since I've done it! I also like antiquing, and I did that several weeks ago with my girlfriend!
