Well I guess I can now officially call myself a "famous author" as I found a free copy of The Plague Son complete with a review calling it a self-help type book. That part made me laugh, I have to admit. It's a horror fantasy for pete sake!
Filed a complaint to have it removed with proof it belonged to me. Now, for all of you who like to pick up these free books at sites please check to see if the author has given permission before downloading the book. To err on the side of caution-if it ain't directly from Kindle or an official site don't risk doing something illegal!
For those who don't know what a DMCA is:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Digital Millennium Copyright Act Long title To amend title 17, United States Code, to implement the World Intellectual Property Organization Copyright Treaty and Performances and Phonograms

This is the first I've found but I imagine there are others. Dishonesty irks me.

@jaboUK You're welcome! I think it's something that a lot of people aren't familiar with. I only recognize a lot of the things I see because I've been actively earning online for the past 10 years and have looked at many of those services myself. Of course, if you're only sharing your own original content, it's quite difficult to earn well from them, so too many people resort to sharing things that infringe on others' copyrights.

@BelleStarr I know quite a few authors who have had it happen to them.

@irishidid it is appalling how widespread it is.

Well my self-help approach can sometimes turn into a horror that I wish was just a fantasy.
Bummer! Hate that somebody out there is forcing you to do extra unnecessary work by having to file a complaint. Just writing and publishing is hard work enough. But then to have to go after somebody trying to take credit for your efforts? That really burns me!
Hope you get 'em!!
Grrrr … !!!

If you read some of my other posts you'll see I've been dealing with cheats, dishonesty and frauds lately. This is just another one to be dealt with and I'm on the winning side with the truth.

I don't usually download books. I like the hard copies, but I'm glad you caught it. I'd be upset too.
