Bob Dylan - A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall

I first heard this song on an album my mom had. It was Bob Dylan's second album, “Freewheeling,” which he recorded in 1962. The song has been associated with the Cuban missile crisis, but Dylan has never really said what it means. He has been quoted as saying "Every line in it is actually the start of a whole new song. But when I wrote it, I thought I wouldn't have enough time alive to write all those songs so I put all I could into this one." That album was my introduction to Bob Dylan, and I have been a die-hard fan of his ever since. Like a lot of Dylan's music, this song is complex, it has a lot of moving and mysterious imagery and is open to interpretation. It is kind of a fitting song, because hard rain did fall here today. The day started bright and sunny, but then we got the clouds and rain.

Yay Bob Dylan! In my high school American Studies class, I wrote my final paper on him.

Wow, there is a ton of material there. I've left YouTube to continue playing his songs, and the shear number of words is almost overwhelming. I'm listening to "Tangled up in Blue."

I LOVE Bob Dylan - he's an original he always will. My favorite song of his is Mr. Tambourine Man, I first heard it in the 90's while watching Michelle Pfeiffer movie, I was in elementary school back then. His words - Oh man, I just love how well he plays with them and how terribly romantic his lyrics are without trying too hard. The spontaneity is there, the melody, the vibe, everything. He is one of those artist I solemnly wish were immortal (literally)

That is amazing and wonderful that you heard his words in the '90's and recognized their genius. He is an incredible musician, and poet. I'm glad his influence will live on into another generation.

I was never a big Dylan fan. Maybe I arrived too late. But I really like Blood on the Tracks, especially Tangled Up in Blue.

I always loved his early works the best, from the Blowin' in the Wind, and The Times They are a Changin' era. I still can appreciate his later efforts though. I had Modern Times on the rotation in my car for quite a while.

Sometimes I think we pull songs apart too much. Often the composer doesn't go along with whatever interpretation is put on it.

I'm sure a lot of it is just playing with words.

I'm not sure if you are saying you like him or not. I've never thought of his voice as metallic. It has changed some over the years.
