Get educated before educating your child....

You know all those degrees and credentials neatly framed and hanging on your walls at your office and your home are useless when it comes to your child.
For kids, those mean nothing. Daddy and Mommy mean everything. Their time means everything. Their attention and their love mean everything.
What they do and how they do? Yeah, kids notice that. Even though they understand nothing.
Every little thing like the way you speak, the way you move and the way you behave. They see that and copy that.
Do you think your credentials matter when it comes to that?
Do you really think that boasting about your "highly educated" status have any bearing on your child's development?
Do you really think that all your credentials make you educated?
Think again... !!!
Before you go yapping and yelling at your kid for bad behavior, look in the mirror first. Try to understand what prompted that behavior in them.
No kid is born with any of those traits. Either good or bad.
Why blame them?
Why curse them or at them?
Discipline your child after understanding the cause.
Stop mistreating the little hearts.....
Okay! I went on a rant. Being a teacher, I have come across all types of parents. Thinking about one or two of them sent me on this rant.
So, enough of the heavy. The title says, "Get educated before educating your child." So, lets get educated, shall we?
If quitters never win, why do they tell us to quit while we're ahead?
If you know the answer, let me know...

Those charged with the task of bringing up a family are, as you say, often the least qualified to do so. Is it too late to correct the damage...? Good question. Having children is the easiest thing in the world, but rearing them takes a lifetime. Good post.

@pgntwo It's not too late if people change their attitudes and pay much needed attention to their kids.

@JudyEv It certainly is. But they don't get it. Some people think that since they have many certificates to show off that makes them more capable of dealing with kids. lol Funny thought though.
They fail to understand that their educated or uneducated status fail in comparison to love and care their child needs.

Very interesting discussion, I am so glad that I loved my babies, took care of them and now as adults I couldn't be prouder of them. What I see in the papers and on the news is pretty awful. Ignored kids are left to fend for themselves, how do the parents think they are going to turn out ok with no guidance. There are thousands of educated parents and uneducated parents that don't have a clue what a child needs so they give nothing. It's the child who suffers.

@Daljinder some don't understand birth control, or ignore it. When I worked with college kids I saw wayyyyy too many getting pregnant so their lover would marry them and it never happened. They all turned out to be a single mother (who really didn't want a baby).

@PainsOnSlate That is so selfish and manipulative to get pregnant so their partners would marry them.

@PaintsOnScale I don't understand why they even have kids when they are clearly going to neglect them. It's really awful seeing some people struggling to have one child while some of those who are blessed with one they don't pay them any heed.

You obviously didn't see or hear this but I clapped when I read this lol
Because it's true. Not that my mum and dad boasted about what they were doing for a job but they did things in front of me and said things in front of me that should never have been said in front of a child.
Anyway basically I agree with what you are saying. Very true and very well said!

@Daljinder First, I'm sorry for whatever your parents did in front of you.
And as for that other poor kid....geez man that makes me mad and just upset for him and anyone like him in general.

@VivaLaDani13 Nah no need to be sorry. I learned not to be that way from them . So, I learned something good and become who I am as a person today.

That is what bothers me the most. Getting all high and mighty while cursing at the kid on the side. lol Funny people!
Not that my parents were all sunshine and rainbows. They weren't. They said and did things that they shouldn't have in front of us. It leaves a lasting impression.
There used to be a parent who didn't shy away from hitting at his kid in front of everyone. Then there was one who refused to get his child help and get tested who we (the principal and I) suspected was dyslexic.
Dude that boy was underdeveloped. He may have had other problems too because his speech wasn't clear either. But his father didn't want to listen and he was a principal himself in a different school. He believed his son was just being lazy and didn't want to study.
Well ask the teacher who dictates word to word so that the kid could keep up with his work. Ask the teacher who looks after the child separately. Ask the teacher who see his hands shaking whenever he forgets or get confused between "b" and "d". Ask the teacher who saw whenever he didn't understand anything he turned aggressive because he didn't know how to handle frustration.
Yikes!!!

Some people do seem to think because they have a college education they are the best parents in the world. I have know people who have no degree and are the best parents in the world. To bad you have to deal with some parents who have no good sense.

@Marcyaz It's fine. I have my own education to boast back. I can intimidate even a person with PhD with my knowledge if I want to. But I don't and it doesn't bother me in the least. They can boast all they want.

They only want their kids to be them
Being a teacher myself, I feel pained as I read this one. They are still the same as they were during the days when I was a teacher...
As for your question - If quitters never win, why do they tell us to quit while we're ahead? - Two answers -
1. How would I know, I am not a quitter (that is the serious one).
2. And the lighter one - quitters want their clan to grow and so they want you to quit and join them

I agree, parents must be the role models for their children to follow.

@acelawrites And it doesn't take a rocket science to know how to be a good role model. Only behaving good sometimes is more than enough.

Good share DJ. Children should be given time by parents. What they can learn from parents, they cant get in schools.
