Happy Star Wars Day everyone. Yes, May The Fourth Be With You. The Sun has come out again, so I got some more of my potential Youtube footage shot. I also made a list of more than 40 projects I can easily work on with my camcorder. My mum was alarmingly summoned to hospital for ‘urgent’ scan tests on her bowel disorders. She is due for a colonoscopy soon, but this test was sprung on her at the last minute which makes me concerned that her heart condition may not be the only threat on her life at present. As the weather was sunny for the first time in weeks I took my camcorder out to make a few short videos. One was captured in a perfect take, but the second one was ruined by my thumb being over the viewing lens. Grrr. I got a slight splinter in my thumb from a wooden fence I brushed against, my first splinter in years. I managed to prize it out with my fingers. I got some lunch and sat outside the local Newton Heath Library to eat it, planning to read through a book up to the library opening, but a lady sat by me and started sermonizing about God, especially when I told her that I’m an unbeliever. She got hysterical then, warning me of the fires of Hell and telling me that demons were all round me. She started telling me that she found God when she ‘died’ on an operating table. I tried telling her that I had heard many near death experience stories but they were just misperceptions and that nearly dying isn’t actually dying. She told me the last guy who tried getting so smart with her died horribly soon afterwards and that I need to find God soon before he loses patience with me. I found her in your face ‘you are too nice to go to Hell’ spiel funny as well as intimidating. It was impossible to get any counterview across to her and I was glad when salvation arrived with the opening of the library. Arthur Chappell

often times it's not worth arguing, the only opinion they hear is their own. I simply refuse to say if I believe or not, and just comment it's nice we live in a place where it's ok to be open about what we believe in.

@Jessicalynnt I wonder if anyone ever changes beliefs from being bombarded with such in your face evangelism

@Jessicalynnt if anything, it probably puts off people actually considering a change to their beliefs already

Wasn't there any way to escape from her before the library opened? I would have been away from her in a shot. Who do these people think they are?

@JudyEv I was tempted to wander off but I found her quite fascinating for how appalling she was.

@arthurchappell It amazes me how they don't realise how off-putting they are. Who would ever join a religious group after being subjected to that?

@JudyEv it was more like she was assuring herself than really talking to me - she might as well yell at her own reflection in a mirror

I was at my friend's wedding, and a lady found out I was atheist and vowed to turn me the other way by the end of the night. She must be confused if she's preaching to me, especially at an occasion where it has no place.

@teamfreak16 there is a time and place for such attempts - clearly a wedding wasn't one. Some fanatics can be really tactless
