What We Really Want in life?

What is it that we are looking for in life? For me, it is peace of mind but with an active life where we coexist without artificial borders. We are from the same source and nothing much differentiates us. The issues that we face are similar like those within families, anxieties, ailments; no one is wiser with regard to where we were or where we go with all respects to our beliefs or lack thereof. If the same question was asked a century or even a thousand years ago, the answer should be the same. Of course, technology has given us the goodies and the many conveniences. For me they have proved we are the same like the way we cut across borders now and communicate as one. I wonder what has country borders to do with the common citizens. I just want to be a global citizen and have more than enough which I agree will not even meet the basics for some just like how I might feel with what others are satisfied with. Attitude should trump material possessions If we extrapolate our realistic thinking we can get to the next level from now, where we lose ourselves in trivial issues made out as as life and death ones - America vs China/Russia, Russia vs NATO, one religion vs another with God staying away! I hear the creator: It is your call – humanity is just another species, easily dispensable! What we really want – your take? Image: Wikimedia Images

If only! This reminds me of the John Lennon song, "Imagine." When I hear that song, I say again, "if only." It seems there will always be strife among nationalities, about the god of your choice, the color of skin, etc.

I think our Creator will take a hands-off approach like some parents do with their children once they cross the path of logic and reason. Having been given faculties to think and reason if we still want to self- destruct, then so be it ! We either sink or swim as one - siva

What I really want is solar powered home with fresh water well, growing my own food and hone canning it. That would be peace of mind for me. Not working my butt off for other all the time while I do without.

Work life should not be overwhelming and become the be-all and end-all of our lives. I am very hopeful about the future of solar energy releasing us from grid power. We should unshackle ourselves and become independent for our basic needs - siva

I would like to have a joyful and peaceful mind. I believe if everyone does his part well, the world will be beautiful. But, it doesn't seem to be that way, so I can only choose to do it myself, and hopefully I can help to make some changes, even minor changes. I agree with being the global citizen. I always think we are all human, there should not be any differences or classifications among countries, races, skin colors, genders, beliefs, etc.

I try my best within my family/friend circles and online to spread some cheer but stay realistic at the same time. I highlight the real issue in our world where a minority, especially the politicians, create issues where there were none, keep old wounds festering, and take credit for solving non-existing issues! They do nothing to benefit the common citizens - okay, even when they do it is more for their selfish reasons. Let borders remain but we are just humans all - the differences that seem to divide us are artificial including wealth - siva

I just want the simple things in life - health and happiness. It's a brutal world we live in.

Yes, few set the agenda and the majority are led like lambs to slaughter and paying for the "sins" of the few! siva

What I want in life? I have multiple answers for that but very one thing I have wanted and asked from Him was to see my children become professionals and have a good life ahead. The first one was answered already and I am still wishing and hoping that all of them will have a contented and best life that they can have in the future. Did I say it right?

Happy for you. Yes, individually we want the best for our family. We do our best and then the rest is not within our hands It is natural for a parent to worry and be anxious that all go well. Our children are separate individuals and should find their own way eventually - siva

I want to feel peaceful and be fully aware, wherever I am. And I want to be kind to others without losing my sense of irony. And I'd like that kindness to spread. I feel powerless to change things on a grander scale, so I concentrate on what's around me.

That is a realistic take on life. I heard while at school - each can do but little, but if each does that little all will be done I feel there is the innate goodness everywhere but few call the shots and take us to the brink - siva

Some people just want to learn how to kiss crocodiles!!
Should the question be what do we want from life, or rather more, what does life want from us? The answer for me reaches into the sublimity of meaningfulness on both sides of this question, because for us to obtain our own meaning, we must fulfil life's wants of us, but for life to reach into us and give us its meanings we must want to find this meaning of life's, and bring it to life through our striving to be all we can be, because we can only be all we are, when we are all we can be. I have never wanted anything of life, and all of my life I have searched for what I think life really wants of me. Perhaps I have just been like a dog chasing its own tail in this seemingly useless, though interesting search.

@Shiva49 Yes, contentment comes when we accept life for what it is, but even so I strive for more, by not accepting each contentment that comes to me, I seem to want even more than just such a simple contentment. LOL. Your balanced approach keeps some of the contentment in your boat without bucketing it all out again, again LOL..

I have met few who just can't be bothered about philosophical takes on life and such and just enjoy every day. There are also those at the other extreme who worry about afterlife and forget to live the present one! I recall what I read about a couple who were very religious. The husband "left" first and the wife was anxious whether he did reach heaven. Then she heard him that he was enjoying himself eating, sleeping one following the other. Then the wife asked further - how is heaven then different from present life. His answer - I am just reborn as a buffalo few miles away from where we lived! I think we will never be wiser try as we might to understand life. For me I take a safer path to give more than I take and thereby get some fulfillment - siva

@innertalks Yes, we need to look high and low to understand what life is about even though we may not become wiser! I am reminded often of the Serenity Prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. I try to stretch my limits but sort of knowing the limits - an oxymoron? siva

@Shiva49 We all want more or less the same things in life---peace, comfort, joy, long life---simple. But it's not simple---we often make it hard on ourselves and others.

happiness.. this is the only word that comes to my mind when i read this question. happiness can have different meanings for different people though. for some it may be in their family, some may find their happiness in their work. some find happiness in earning money other may find it in charity. i believe it totally depends on our way to look at life.

Yes, if we do our duty as per the dictates of our conscience and without getting influenced by what others think it will lead to happiness and fulfillment. Happiness is a state of our mind. I consider what others say, make mental notes of them, and then move on. Some pour their efforts on material possessions which can bring us grief as they can be taken away but knowledge and wisdom are more enduring. My take is to have an all encompassing life to balance one against another - siva
