A better exchange rate than advertised

In preparation for my trip to Malta I acquired a few Euros today. Since I already have a few remaining from previous trips to the European Union, all I needed was £200 worth to top up. As usual I checked the relative exchange rates offered and the best available was at Cash Generators. According to the currency exchange list displayed outside they were offering 1.232 Euros per British pound. When I asked for the money inside the shop the conversion seemed a fraction better than I expected. This was confirmed by the receipt I received, which showed that I was given 1.24 Euros per British pound. This is a negligible difference, but I was surprised that they had advertised a lower rate in the window.

Glad it was workable for you. I have never traveled off of the continent so I don't know about the different conversions. I went to Canada but had no problem.

@allknowing All the paperwork is now in a folder, so they cannot be forgotten. If anything does get overlooked I can simply buy another in Malta.

@Asylum You must have made a chec list to so that you do not miss out on anything. It can be quite frustrating if you leave behind even a small thing that could mar your holiday. Do not forget your tickets

Yes, which is why I would expect it to be routine to change it daily.

Like stamps, using new currency is fun. You have to do a lot of math when spending though to keep from overspending or (horrors) underspending!

It depends of the exchange rate, and this exchange rate varies from a bank to another one. The market rate is 1.27052 Euro for a British pound today.

It will vary from place to place, but you would expect the list outside to be up to date. As for today's rate, you will never get a direct conversion because these places have Sell and Buy rates.

It's another case of businesses being too lazy to make money.
