Watch Those Hands

Someone in a magazine I read the other day said something I hadn't thought of before. It was a fluff piece, they asked what beauty advice has she gotten that she always remembers. She said her mother told her to always remember to put sunscreen on your hands (for prettier hands although it helps to be safe). And, it occurred to me how right that is. I'm not in the sun any more than I have to be during spring and the summer. It gets hot early in Oklahoma, and it stays hot until Halloween. Besides, some of my medication actually has warnings telling users of the medication not to stay in the sun long.
These days women's makeup has sunscreen in it already, although the strength of it varies. Mine has sunscreen, and since I don't wear tank tops or crop tops, or sleeveless blouses I don't worry about putting sunscreen on anywhere else. In addition, I usually have a hat on. However, besides my face, my hands get the most exposure. When you drive we don't think about all the exposure we get on our hands.
At the store today, and it was a small store, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, but I found a lightweight SPF 55 to put on every time I get in my car. There are lotions who tout having sunscreen in them, and then there are sunscreens specifically designed to be lightweight so you don't have to worry about being greasy when you're simply taking a short trip.
What other things do you guys believe we don't think of often, but should? I remember reading one skin cancer survivor telling people to check between your toes, and if you have a history in your family to specifically have someone look at your scalp.

I remember being told when I was teenager, never wash your face with soap, just water. That is something I have always done. My facial skin is nice and smooth, no breakouts. I think that it was good advise. As for sunscreen I buy the 50 to 75 SPF, living in a high dessert area the sun seems very intense. I switched from a 35 SPF when I moved here a couple of years ago.

One girl I saw on TV swears by putting aloe on her face every day (straight from the plant). She wears no makeup, just washes with water and adds aloe. I have to use something to take my makeup off, but I use less product than I ever have.

People here seem to think that's a lot, but going on experts, they steer you to at least 40 just in general outings. So as much as my hands are in the sun I think it's necessary.
I have wondered about my dad and skin cancer. He worked constantly as a kid, including summer in California's fields picking potatoes. When he decided to open a school associated with the church he was pastoring, he was the one who was consistently building it (to save money). Most church guys altered helping because of their own work schedule. He was in that sun constantly. He's had several patches of skin looked at, and a couple of them removed. But he isn't conscious of checking himself for odd markings.
I'm glad you use sunscreen. The longer you are around the better!

Lucky are those not in tropical country like mine , the Philippines . In here , the sunblock we have for the face can go as high as 20 SPF only . But for the skin it's only 50 SPF i think , as i don't like being under the sun specially when at the beach .

Sun exposure is not a huge issue where I live, except at certain times of year.
I do forget to put sunscreen on, but I usually do wear a hat and when I am outside, I'm not a big shorts fan, so I'm usually covered.
Gonna have to watch the toes, though, as I like sandals in warm weather!!

I wish that I had known to wear sunscreen when I was younger.
