You do not have to write a book

In order to have a discussion here you do not have to write a book length post. I just came from one that has a dozen words but it creating a discussion. It is by a new user.
We were prompted yesterday by @miniam to interact with newbies, and so we should. If their discussions need help, we should help. On the other hand they do need to give us something that we might have in common in order to get us into their discussion.
My image was from an online free site. I saved it because I like it.
Giving us common ground is why this short post by @sampreet is drawing responses. I have answered two of his discussions this morning because they are things I relate to.
I have seen discussions today asking where we learned about the site, how our health is, when we joined. All things we have in common all over the world.

And I agree with you. Some new members seem to think that this site is really like a blog and would write a lengthy post. Sometimes they would even write short novels. It could be interesting to read, but sometimes I don't have the patience.

Sometimes long posts make me feel like I am in a lecture.

Sometimes being online is like being on a treasure hunt and you never know what you will find.

Thanks.
I have sometimes felt discussions were too short, but this one with just twelve words really got people to respond. There was something for each of us to talk about.

@GardenGerty So many times people talk and talk and say nothing. At other times, just a few words sufice.

Not sure why anyone would want to create a very lengthy discussion - people have limited time and limited attention spans too.

Oh, I blabber a lot from time to time, and I know there are people who will not read the long ones. I just say what I need to and let it go.

I try to, a couple times a week, pick a few new user posts and interact. I DO know we were once told those pay a tad better, so if this money is imp to a person (and to many on here I know it helps them out), they deff want to do that

I go there often, sometimes the titles do not grab me. On the other hand, once I get into the post it may be something I really relate to. I also know that we have had the discussion before that sometimes some posts are awfully short, but if it is the right few words it does not have to be long.

@GardenGerty if it's crafted enough to add some kind of hook, then yeah, it can deff be short. Dont wanna write a book too often either, people on the net do NOT stare at a single page too long for the most part

I think I am learning from my responses that I could split my discussions up into smaller bits and post them separately.

That is why I just choose what discussions I could respond to. Because sometimes I was just too lazy to read.
And I also learn from mylot guidelines that to start a discussion it should not be just a sentence or two.

If the sentence or two is thought provoking, a short one is long enough.

@thesids wrote a long post (a past incident) and someone even pointed it out. but i was glad he didn't break it down into several parts to milk it (the way some people at the big b did).
reading the whole story helped you understand where everyone was coming from. it made you aware that situations can go either way.
you could say it was a happy and sad story. in other words, true, real, relatable, applicable.

You can learn so much from the newbies... coming from all corners of the planet! Even the recipes interest me :)

I like to learn about recipes and seasonings and how the food grows or whatever. It is a good thing.

I know, but I guess what I am trying to say is that even a short discussion is worth replying to.

Oh yeah I had been to that user's posts too yesterday.
A single line can also prompt a discussion!

hello GG
You know me since years here. And somehow, I cannot come up with discussions that have lesser words. I just cant.
And somehow, even though I have been told by some on my discussions, I fail to understand that my posts cannot have discussions if I dont describe the scenario I want to discuss.
No issues with those who complain or even those who are smart enough and convey in just a few words.

. Somehow, I cannot start a discussion with less words and content. I mean, I always have something to explain and then discuss.
