The Wikipedia is asking for donations.

I was just checking something at the web, clicked at the Wikipedia and if was asking for donations. I read what it said and I would like to contribute. But what I read was that the minimum was $1,500. Gimme a break!!! I would love to donate that amount to myself! I donete often some dollars for good causes. They ask for a couple of dollars (or whatever you can spare) but not for thousands. What are your thoughts about donations?

This is the first time I see this, but I was willing to donate a couple of dollars once that I discovered that they did not want more.

@marguicha They ask for money every year so it is nothing new.

You may have been scammed. They only ask for a minimum donation of $3 or more.

@DianneN I suppose they changed the US$ to chilean pesos. Anyway, I will not worry about $2. And I hope it reaches the place I want to.

The changing trend of donations has been a mystery to me for a while. The system here was drifted towards requests for ongoing monthly commitments instead of the old idea of simply asking for a single payment. This is a deterrent to many potential donators.

I checked after reading the answers here and, typical in this world of technology, they were asking for a sum in chilean pesos. Reading father (that amount was not over US $2) I discovered that they know my IP and, according to that is the currency they use. So I proceeded to send some money. I use often the Wikipedia and this is the first time they ask me to contribute.

A few months ago I saw they were fundraising, but I hadn't seen them do it since.

I think you got a fake site. I donate to Wikipedia a couple of times a year and they NEVER have a minimum like you describe. Perhaps you hit a scammer passing themself off as Wikipedia.

I will see about it. Not that I would donate that amount to anybody except my children
