What I Learned from School

I know anything goes here in myLot and I admit I'm not perfect in grammar. But I just want to share what I learned from school, about the basics in putting the correct title of a discussion. So please allow me to post this one. I remember when I was in school, our English teacher taught us how to make a story and this includes putting a good title on it. In the title, we were taught that the first letter of every word in the title should be in a capital letter. But some types of words, like conjunctions, definite and indifinite articles, prepositions, and some others, are excluded to be capitalized unless they are at the beginning of the title. Well, anyone can add or correct me if I was wrong. What have you learned from school?

My mother is a teacher major in English from a prestigious university in our country (U.P.)but never practiced her profession because she helped my dad in his business since it was more profitable financial wise when we were growing up but she always saw to it that we kids always did the right thing.

@Macarrosel modesty aside she's a very intelligent woman, at age 83 now she still sees to it that her grandchildren write and speak English the proper way. If I have things like letters or compositions for my business I still read it to her to ask a second opinion

You are definitely correct. The following parts of speech are generally capitalized in creating a title. Nouns Adjectives Verbs Adverbs Pronouns Subordinating conjunctions (as, because, that) I Place the Basket on Top of the Table Noticed that "the" "on" aren't capitalized.

@Macarrosel I actually research that, since I can't remember all. I know that we can place anything here without being mindful of the technicality. But your discussion is a simple reminder worthy to be shared or liked. I am no expert too however I like learning especially if it will enrich my grammar.

I think we all learned that one. But like what you said anything goes here on myLot and we don't have to be bothered by how people create their titles here.

@Macarrosel do we get high grades when we become very technical here? Do people not comment if we break the technical rules we learned from school? I know we get banned if we break mylot rules. but nowhere in the mylot rules said we have to be putting up a perfect technical title.

@toniganzon high grades? myLot rules? very technical? Why are you talking all of these, when I never said anything about them.. FYI, I'm just sharing my thoughts here, and I'm not mentioning or implying anything negative to anyone. Why are you acting negatively on my discussion? I never said that anyone violates the rules here. I never said we should put the correct title here. I just shared what I learned from school. Honestly, I cannot think of a good topic to post here that's why I posted this discussion without any intention to offend anyone. But if anyhow, you're being offended, which I really don't know why, then I'm so so sorry. Well, I admit I am bothered reading a discussion without putting a correct title, but that's all. I have no write to judge anyone here on anything they do for I know I'm not perfect. Even my grammars are not perfect here. I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain here. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts here.

Yeah, I know that you know everything. I just posted this one as a reminder for those who forget what they were taught in school about it. If you're not bothered, well, I am. Thanks anyway.

I was taught that, also. Unimportant words are not capitalized. I have gotten away from this on myLot but I do know how to write a title. I had to write many of them for articles I wrote online. Good to be reminded of that.

yes, i capitalize each word in my title. it's just my way of making sure each word stands out since we all tend to speed-read online. i may not capitalize in responses and comments, but i'm "proper" when i make my own post. again, just personal preference. but if i see sOmEtHiNg LiKe ThIs I sKiP iT aT oNcE

It has been so long since I have been in school that I forgot alot that I learned. What you said about the capital letters I remember that .I also learned that a noun is person, place or thing I think. The others I have a problem with.
