Do you take feedbacks well?

Well.. I really don't! Constructive or not, there's nothing more annoying to me than unsolicited, unexpected, and generally unwelcomed "feedbacks". The worst part is the "maker" of the feedbacks often pleaded these were "for me own good." Obviously, I often respond in a way that made the person regret they ever bought up the topic. e.g. I spent over an hour cooking for a friend. Her compliment to my effort was that she disliked the potatoes, as it could've been a bit mushier. Apparently, she was trying to help me to improve my cooking?!!! Really??? Really??? How about you cook for me for once?!!! Rant over! Anyhow, what's your thoughts on unwanted feedbacks?

Maybe I should feel guilty : I was invited to a birthday party today, and I had to eat a Burgundy tuna stew. It was a Burgundy beef stew where the beef was replaced by tuna, because the woman of the house is half-vegetarian and eats fish but not meat. I had nothing to say about the tuna, but the carrots were not cooked enough, and would have been better if they had been mushier. Maybe was it an unwanted feedback, but I could not resist to tell it.

It makes me churn and sizzle inside when someone points out things to me like that. I often feel like put down which I absolutely hate.

Criticism can be hard to take, but if it's done tactfully it can be ok.

Those kind are definitely not wanted. If I've put myself out to make a dinner for someone, their criticism of it is highly unwelcome, and yes, they can do the cooking from then on. We do like good praise of our efforts though.

Indeed! I mean if she mentioned it after the meal it would be ok. But not just after a bite.

When someone cooks for me I always compliment them even if she likes her potatoes mushier she should have been appreciative of what you have done. Yeah look her cook for you and see how she feels if you said somethng like that. lol lol Unwanted feedbacks are not welcome, if I ask you and then you say something that is different but to just say without being asked is not my cup of tea.

If I am truly not interested, I try to let it go in one ear and out the other. Sometimes, though, something the person says strikes a nerve.... I am not good at lying about something that bugs me.... If I can't hold it back the person finds out exactly how I feel and why. I have always heard red haired people have a fiery temper.... I think someone met you, Wendy, and was warning the rest of the world!

@Drosophila I am quite sure you must at least have red highlights, then! Or I can come over and help you put some red highlights into your hair and we can tell the world that saying was penned after someone met and crossed you in some way! You gotta admit, that could be a LOT of fun!

You should always consider the source. Is this from a person whose opinions you value? Or, is this someone who is always negative and ready to find fault with everything?

I take any unwanted feedback as an opinion. Everyone has one, doesn't mean I have to take the advice. When your friend mentioned your potatoes should of been fluffier, maybe you should have suggested her making them for you. So, you can taste and see what she is talking about? She will either talk you up on and make them for you. Or never mention something like that again.

I remember a so-called-friend of my mother's told my mom one day that her cakes were too wet. Now, my family happens to like moist cakes, and this lady didn't. She told my mother you need to let me teach you how to make a good cake, because yours is too wet. I found it to be rude and so did my mother.
