Today around 11 am I have an appointment with a doctor about the ingrown toenails I have. Both of my small toes have them. I have had then for over 10 years and I just cannot stand it anymore. It hurts so bad to walk in shoes. I cut off what I can and it helps a little but I think the whole toenail needs to be removed for them to grow properly again from what I have heard. I am nervous about it but would rather get it all over with them keep dealing with this pain. Once Obama Care ends I will no longer have insurance so I need to get this taken care of now.

Why did you wait 10 years to get medical help?

I know it sounds crazy but I just hate going to the doctor that bad. I put every thing off as long as I can and I just can't stand it anymore so I needed to give in and go especially before I lose my insurance.

@shaggin Honestly that's not a good approach to your health. I'm sure it's going to be much nastier now than if you'd sorted it out sooner. BUT that said, I hope it's not too horrible for you.

@boiboing It really wasn't to bad. It wasn't like me not going caused any damage. It feels better now hims grinding off the built up toenail from the corn. When it gets really painful again I can go back and have it done again or have surgery to straighten the toe so I would keep walking on the nail and causing the corns.

Taking away the ingrown from the nails can really be excruciating . I had a bad experience in the parlor that it made me never to have them pedicured in the parlor anymore since that time . I am now just doing my pedicure and so far i am no adept on how to take those ingrown without hurting my toenails. Maybe you can update us about it , once its done . I hope it will go smoothly .

Well I have two problems neither of which is ingrown toenails. I have nail fungus on my two large toes. I also have corns on my little toes. He gave me stuff to put on my toes for the fungus. He dug out the corns and ground the area down. I can keep going and having it done when it grows back and is painful or I can have surgery done. I will have to wait and see what happens over the next few months.

I have an aunt who had to have an ingrown toe removed. She never had the problem. BTW, I see that you are using Obama Care. I only read bad news about it. Why don“t you write a post so that we ( out of the US) understand both sides of the picture?

They gave it to me as I am low income. If I hadn't accept the free medical I would have been fined. I am happy to have the medical although I do not go to the doctor unless I absolutely have to. This pain I could not stand anymore I had to go. The toenail really wasn't ingrown it is actually that the town curls under so I walk on the nail and so it builds up a callus and forms a corn. He told me that I can have surgery to straighten the toe if him sanding it all down doesn't fix it which it probably won't.

@shaggin It is wonderful that you have free medical care. Noone loves to go to the doctor, but many times we have to.

I've never had such experience but my brother and cousin had. They both had minor surgeries from a doctor to get rid of it.

Well I found out that I actually have two problems going on. The pain with my little toes is that my toe curls under so I walk on the nail. It builds up a callus and forms a corn. He cut it and filed it all down with a sander but he said as long as the toe turns under like that this will probably always be a problem. He said to see how things go and if the pain comes back and the toenail keeps building up and being sore like that then there is a surgery they can do to straighten the toe.

I found out that it wasn't ingrown toenails it is corns. My pinky toe turns under so I walk on the nail which builds up a callus and forms a corn. He dug it out and sanded it down. He said it will keep happening though and that I can keep coming back and having that done or I can have a surgery where they straighten the toe.

It actually wasn't an ingrown toe nail it is that my smallest toe curls under so I walk on the nail and it builds up a callus and forms a corn. He scraped it out and ground it down. He said that it probably will help for awhile but will continue to do this unless I have surgery to straighten the toe out. I do have toe nail fungus though too on my big toe so he gave me a Antifungal nail polish stuff and told me to keep using vicks as I have been for a few years. My toe nails look awful now. It was a bit painful what he did but just while he was doing it. It will be a lot less painful now with the corns gone.
