My cherry trees have cherries at long last woohooo. We planted this particular cherry tree about 3 years ago. It was a very young tree and we so far have not had any cherries. Our other cherry tree that we planted 4 years ago has died. Not sure what disease it had but it's dead and we have to pull it up soon. We bought the 2nd one because we need two to pollinate.
The 2nd tree we planted does have cherries because it self pollinates. And we have cherries. Many many cherries. I am so excited I almost can't stand it. Now to see if they make it all the way to ripening. We may have to net it to keep the birds from eating them all.

@AbbyGreenhill I plan on it, I think we have a net but they are so fragile you can't store them and then use them again so I have to go buy another one.

Oh yea we are going to net it or we won't get one cherry and this is our first harvest, so no way are the birds getting the first taste.

It's very exciting, we have waited a long time to get to this point, we won't be sharing with the birds.

@fishtiger58 That's good. They don't need cherries anyway. I know you're already planning pies and things, maybe some jelly.

@just4him Jelly would be good if hubby and son don't eat them all off the tree first, which could very well happen.

Oh that is great news! I love cherries. Is this a pie cherry tree or sweet cherry?

@fishtiger58 Oh my mouth is watering now. There are no cherry orchards in our area and most of the time the sale at the grocery stores are for $3.99 a pound. That is the "sale" price. We love them but we rarely get them.

It's not a pie cherry it's called Lapin Cherry and they are like the cherries you would buy in the store.

@Shellyann36 Just in the past few years cherries have skyrocketed in price. Last year I saw them for $4.99 a pound I'm not buying them for that price. So we got a tree, everyday the cherries look bigger, I am hoping for a bumper crop.

@DianneN I wish I could share with you. The price of cherries has really gone up the past few years. Will be nice to have my own.

@fishtiger58 It would be different if the birds cleaned up a whole fruit before moving on to another but they mostly just take pecks out of each.

I sure hope so too. There are other cherries we let them have but these are new for us and we don't plan on sharing.

That is really exciting!! I get excited just when a flower grows that I planted. I am not good at gardening-nothing likes to grow for me. Lol

We are very excited this will be our first harvest with this tree, so the plan is to net it to keep the birds off it.

That's awesome!
When I move into my new place, I plan on planting some trees. A cherry tree is at the top of the list!

I am pretty excited about the cherries, we have a few other fruit trees as well. Nothing better than your own homegrown fruits and vegetables.

We are going to net the tree, it's our first harvest of the cherries on this tree, we have no intention of sharing.

@fishtiger58 It's incredible how much they are attracted by red fruits, cover then soon.

We are definitely going to net it, we have some cherry bushes that we get teeny tiny cherries on they can have those, this is our first harvest with this tree, no way the birds are going to get them.

Yes they can so we are going to net it before they can steal our cherries, we have been waiting to long for them to share with the birds.

Our peach tree has peaches on them too, we have had that tree for 13 years, this will be our first harvest of cherries so we plan on netting it.

I can't wait. It will be our first crop of the big cherries, we do have a couple of cherry bushes but the fruit is very tiny and mostly the birds get them.
